Since the 19th century, the Israelis and the Palestinians had remained at odds with one another due to issues on mutual recognition, border and security, rights to Jerusalem and the Israeli and Palestinian rights over movement and settlement. Since the Europeans had long expressed interest over Middle Eastern development, the research question would revolve on the role of the European Union in the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict from 1940 to the present to sustain their interest or intentions. Additional questions identified for this paper would support the EU’s role in the conflict, covering EU-Israeli/Palestinian relations, international community response to the issue and the nature of EU policies and programs in the conflict. In order understand more on how the EU’s action varies from other factions, the research’s literature review would discuss UN and US action throughout the conflict as both had also acted differently from EU action and had varying interests in the conflict’s resolution. As for the theoretical framework of this research, this research, this research would attempt to use the theory of liberalism as the EU had pressed for democracy and cooperation between the conflicting parties. In order to complete this research and its bibliography, this research would use both primary and secondary sources that would comprise the nature of the conflict and EU action and interest in the conflict. Primary sources would come from the official sites and communiques of the EU, the Israeli and Palestinian governments, the US and the UN. Secondary sources would come from books and journals that would identify further points detailing the EU action and interest in the conflict.
