The role and the plight of the women in the society are often ignored especially in chauvinist communities. In some cases, the women are mistreated and killed yet the society does not take keen notice of the vices against the women. “Four brothers” is a movie that shows the desire of the four brothers to revenge for the death of their mother (Robinson, 2000). They discover some people killed their mother and vow to revenge. Although the police and the society interfere with their plans, they vow not to give up on their mission. This paper analyzes the movie, “four brothers” by focusing on gender issues and how individuals attempted to solve them.
Women assume a vital role in the society yet they are often despised and oppressed. In the movie, Evelyn is a mother to many children including the most prominent the four brothers. She brought up the children after adopting them and brought them up to the point that they loved her so much. Bobby, Jack, Jerry, and Angel live together and learn to love each other through their time together with Evelyn. However, in a store robbery, the robbers murder Evelyn. This anger the four brothers who vow to revenge for their mother. It is fair to say that Evelyn was executed mainly due to her minor status, as she could not defend herself. However, watching the store tape, the boys discover that it was not a coincidence forMama Evelyn to die in the gun shooting as a bystander at the store. She was a target and the people murdered her intentionally. They vow to find the killers and that is where they start being rough with the authorities as they search the truth.
In the movie, a woman is presented as a Centre of love in the society. Mama Evelyn adopted the four brothers as young boys and took care of them until they were full-grown. Although the brothers assumed different directions, with one of them being imprisoned for his behavior, their mother had nurtured them accordingly. At the store, when she is murdered, the four brothers do not stop at the robbery claim by most of the people. They vow to find the truth behind the murder and later find out that she was a specific target for the shooters. The love in the four brothers takes them to the point of looking for the people who killed their mother hence they engage the locals in a struggle for the truth.
The love for their mother is not the only bond that unites the four brothers. Mama Evelyn brought the four brothers up to love and cherish each other. The four brothers search for the truth about the murder of their mother, Mama Evelyn together. The woman loved them equal, although they were from different races. They stay united and fight together. The four brothers protect each other from any harm as they struggle to find the truth behind the shooting and death of Mama Evelyn.
The movie shows women as having equal capability to the men. Most of the women in the film show the ability to fight on lie the men did. The four brothers are ready to go out of their way and track down the killers of Mama Evelyn because she gave them a fatherly and motherly love at the same time. However, Angel, one of the four brothers, has a ruthless girlfriend. Her name is Sofi and she is as rough as his boyfriend is (Robinson, 2000). She does not allow any person to hurt her beloved ones and go free. This shows in the screenplay that, although Angel was a rough brother to the three, her girlfriend had an equal measure of roughness.
The four brothers track down the people who killed Mama Evelyn and execute them. This seems an unfair act in revenge for the departed mother, but Angel and Bobby choose it as a way to punish them. They two brothers do not say anything or find any reality from the murderers (Risen, 2008). This shows that the brothers are ready to go out of their way to revenge for their mother. They even confront the police who strictly warn them of interfering with Evelyn’s case. This gets the viewer into thought of whether the police supported the agenda by the four brothers to bring the killers of their mother to book and whether they would succeed in their endeavors if they went on searching for the truth the rough way. However, they four brothers do not stop at trying to get past the police, they are willing to go all the way and finish the job by killing all people behind the plot.
The conversation between the four brothers brings the other aspect of departed Mama Evelyn. She always supported other people to grow. Women in this instance are framed as people who want the society to grow both socially and economically and they do so through supporting the low people. The four brothers, after confronting the police over the execution of the two shooters by Angel and Bobby, get into an argument over the failing business trial by Jeremiah. They accuse him of failing in his business and over relying on Mama Evelyn’s insurance. For some people, this seems like a plot to show how irresponsible Jeremiah was in his life. However, it shows a different image.
It portrays Mama Evelyn as caring to the four brothers. She wants them to succeed. She supported them even when they made mistakes in their choices and careers. Even when Jeremiah made mistakes in his business and failed severally, Mama Evelyn supported him to the end. This shows that she was caring hence; it portrays women as a caring gender. The fact that she was even ready to sacrifice her insurance for Jeremiah’s business also portrays the caring nature of women. However, Jeremiah explains the reason for the failure of his business as primarily lack of involvement for the right people and explains that the insurance went to his daughters because he paid their mother’s bills when they were not around. This seems to settle the argument but all the same, Mama Evelyn cared for Jeremiah and wanted him to succeed.
Women are imaged as assistants of men in the society. The plans of the four brothers to revenge for their mother went through because of the support they had from the women. After Jack dies from wounds of the attack on their house, Bobby executes one of the gunmen but this is not enough. The four brothers decide to use their mothers insurance to buy off Sweet after the police reveal Sweet’s plans and his involvement in Jeremiah’s business. Angel’s girlfriend is to be a key player in the plot. Angel sets off for the Fowler, Jeremiah to meet Sweet and Sofi to the police station. Sophie cheats the police officers that Angel planned to kill one of them. This happens as Jeremiah meets Sweet and informs him that the brothers plotted to kill him. Angry, Sweet demands to know who will kill him just when Bobby arrives, knocks him unconscious, and drops him in a pit (Hulse, 2005). All this happens while a woman, Sofi, tricks the police together with Angel. The three brothers are taken to prison and beaten to confess killing Victor Sweet in revenge mission but they refuse. Later they build their mothers house and continue together. Brotherly love among them was started by a motherly love from Mama Evelyn.
The film Four Brothers is a revenge episode that reveals the real power and position of the women in the society. Although the four brothers acted solely on their conscience, revenged for what they thought was an execution plan rather than a mere robbery. In the process of their revenge, the four brothers executed two gunmen they suspected killed their mother and another gunman who was among others sent by Victor Sweet. They later hunt down Victor Sweet and execute him as revenge for their mother. However, they deny the execution before the police even when they are harassed.
