The Giving Tree is a book written by Shel Silverstein is a heart touching story about a tree and a boy. The story narrates about the bond between them and their love. The tree was a female apple tree, which used to communicate with the boy. In the story, the tree in her entire life referred to the human as ‘boy’ and fulfilled all his needs.
The boy in his childhood used to play with the tree by climbing on her trunk and swinging with her branches. The boy also used to eat apples from her. Tree and the boy were very happy with each other and use to enjoy a lot. The time passed by, and the boy started asking more from her (Silverstein).
When the boy grew up a bit, he started asking for money from the tree. Tree being generous suggested the boy to pick her apples and sell them to earn money. The boy was happy, but this cultivated a habit of asking in the boy. When the boy reached adulthood, he asked the tree for a house to live. The tree suggested the boy to cut her branches and make a house from it.
After making the house and reaching middle age, the boy wanted a boat from the tree, and the tree suggested the boy to make a boat from her trunk. The boy cut her trunk to make the boat, and the tree had only a stump left with her. The tree being generous fulfilled the last wish of the boy, who by now grew old, by giving her stump to make a bench for the boy. Tree gave everything to the boy it had and was still happy (Silverstein).
