The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator is an effective instrument that will be able it analyze and determine a person’s strong points without having to cause a damaging impact on the undesirable characteristics of well-known people, whether they are still living or dead. Rosa Parks is a famous civil rights activist who was born in Tuskegee, Alabama on February 4, 1913. She became a legendary symbol of civil rights when she refused to relinquish her seat to a white passenger inside the bus that was on its way to Montgomery, Alabama which sparked a boycott. Based on the Myers-Briggs, Rosa fits into an ISFJ personality type appropriately called “The Nurturer”. Rosa has internal sense of duty to fight for the rights of the black Americans. She was motivated by courage to be that one candle to light the darkness. Rosa Parks is an ISFJ Myers-Briggs category type because she has demonstrated that she is dependable, responsible and sensitive.
It is without a doubt that Rosa Parks is dependable because she was the only African-American woman who stood up for what she believed is right in order to protect the rights of other black Americans. By fighting for the rights of black Americans, Parks falls under the category “The Nurturer”. According to the Personality Page.com: “ISFJs are warm, generous, and dependable. They are kind and willing to share some of the warmth and love which they freely dispense to others” (Personality Page). The quote is reflective of the esteemed act of Rosa Parks who became celebrated and the only African American woman, who refused to give up her seat for a white passenger. It was out of her own free will when she decided not to surrender her seat and not to abide by the law imposed on the segregation of public utilities. Parks indirectly set in motion the Civil Rights Movement in the America with just a simple act of refusing to give her seat (Bush 838). She was brave enough to question the standard practice of segregation when the driver demanded that the four black passengers to give up their seats to accommodate the white man who entered the bus.
The act of Rosa Parks shows that she is responsible. She was courageous enough to stand up for her right. According to Personality Page.com: “ISFJs hold a strong sense of responsibility and duty to others by taking responsibilities seriously, and make sure that there is a follow through”. Rosa has internal sense of duty to fight for the rights of the black Americans. She was motivated by courage to be that one candle to light the darkness. Parks stated that when she made such decision to stand up for the rights of the black people, she believed that her strength came from her ancestors who encouraged her to fight for what she believed was right. At the same time, when Parks was arrested and later on found guilty for violating the laws of segregation, or the well-known “Jim Crow laws”, she appealed the decision ordering her conviction. Her act stirred the markings of a “contemporary prophetic act by formally challenge the legitimacy of the rule on segregation” (Bush 840). The image of Parks revealed her inner strength became her strong sense of pride by questioning the segregation law between whites and blacks (Bush 841). The act of Rosa Parks inside the bus for not giving up her seat is a strong indication that she is responsible for having a sense of justice for the oppression and inequality between the blacks and the whites.
The act of Parks in refusing to give up her seat shows that she was sensitive for the rights of the blacks by expressing her revulsion toward racial inequality. She was concerned about the feelings of the black passengers by fighting for their rights and to prevent any act of racial discrimination Based on the Personality Page.com, “ISFJs value harmony, cooperation, and are very sensitive to feelings of other people”. This is an indication that Parks is sensitive to stand for justice and suppress any form of racial inequality for the benefit of the black community.
Reflecting on the act of Rosa Parks shows that she was dependable, responsible, and sensitive. She became a symbol of courage and strength to stand up for the rights of the black people while she believed that she possessed the strength of my ancestors. She stood up to her principles and abided by it until it was done. She was sensitive about the feelings of black Americans. ISFJs are nurturers in the sense that they value consideration and awareness by bringing out the best in other people with their intention to believe only the best. The courageous act of Parks is the correct decision to fight for the rights of the black people and question the laws of segregation. Such act of a humble seamstress through a non-violent battle makes her unique because she was able to achieve the abolition of racial inequality.
