Christianity is a religion that has gone though various phases, some that have been challenging and others that have displayed true victory. Whenever a certain victory had to be achieved, there had always been a challenge that has made even the believers stronger. Many have questioned its authenticity while unable to unveil its mysteries. It has become a source of inspiration and transformation to many as it unites different communities and tribe. In the fifth chapter of the book ‘Adventures in the Human Spirit’, the author takes us through the various challenges that the Christian religion has had to go through and how it immerged victoriously. Despite the persecutions that various pioneers of the Christian religion had to go through, the religion has never died. It has instead spread far and forth as many acknowledge how much they have been transformed.
The most important highlight of the chapter, which has also been highlighted in the movie ‘Brother Sun, Sister Moon’ is the brotherhood that has facilitated the growth of Christianity. After much rebellion and denial, we realize that a person comes to realize that there is no better way than to acknowledge the existence of God. One perfect example was Fransis of Assisi who many years after leaving a rebellious life, came to church, repented and there after started winning more souls to Christianity. It is usually touching to know how much the Christian family welcomes a repentant soul and not engage in any conversations about whether they should be allowed to the church or not. Christianity is a divine calling that takes the conviction of the Holy Spirit. Once a person is convicted of his or her sins, they are left with no otherwise but to repent and carry on with the work of Christ.
A Christian, just as any other person goes through a number of challenges; however, what distinguishes a Christian from another person is how they handle the issue. A Christian will choose to pray and get the message that God is trying to communicate with them. Using the biblical teachings, they remain calm as they learn the lesson. In most cases, after such a challenge, they come back stronger as their faith in God is strengthened. Knowing that God is in control is what gives Christian believers hope, the life of Jesus, which is their ultimate example; convince them that no matter how hard or tough the situation could be, they will overcome. The spirit of unity and togetherness helps Christians to share and therefore managing their situation effectively.
Compassion is what has made Christianity recognized as a true religion. It was an important tool that Jesus and the early missionaries used to spread the love and teach people about Christianity. The reality of the fact that material wealth cannot satisfy a person has made many people seek spiritual fulfillment through Christianity. Even though many people join after they are dissatisfied with the situations of life, it remains to be a perfect consolation even as they recover from their perfection. Christianity is one of the religions that welcome a person that has had an ugly past without necessarily condemning them. They have a chance to reconsider their ways and start their lives all over again. The confidence that God forgives, forgets and loves them unconditionally is what has sustained Christians and Christianity.
