People know extremely little about the inner life of children, their desires, and inspirations because they tend to live in their own imaginative world. Therefore, in order to have intimate knowledge of children and childhood is important to study them. It is vital to understand children because they cannot represent themselves because they are seen as powerless people who have no capability of confronting issues and making their claims heard.
The study of child studies is vital because there is a need of viewing their potential as human beings. This is so because the variety child-focused studies must contribute to such a holistic understanding of children rather than turning them to specialized abstract fragments. This is an example of ideas and methodological reflections, which has caused the conception of the interdisciplinary area of children’s studies (Lenzer 184).
Meanwhile, the importance of understanding children’s studies is to enhance the knowledge from other diverse sectors of the art and sciences on the notion of children as a class. This enables integration of knowledge at a suitable level of understanding and articulating the issues related to children. Therefore, child studies focus on achieving findings from different fields, and understanding children as human beings. Meanwhile, the author argues that it is vital to develop a holistic conceptualization of children as a class in order to handle the disciplinary issues of children. This will help in developing an adequate, and a genuine comprehensive idea of the children.
Therefore, Gerrtrud ensures the university students have the capabilities and needs as well as cultural rights, which contribute in promoting a knowledge-based and understanding among the educated public and society. The university students can avoid being used by political parties during periods of elections because they are aware of their rights.
