Workers unions have of late lost grounds as most of them have found it difficult to expand resulting into powerlessness of the unions thus making them ineffective in fighting for workers’ rights. Many changes are required to enhance the performance of the unions and ease the instances of industrial actions and the consequent tension. Labor relations have entered an era of conciliatory enlightenment as a result of the triumph of the golden rule and triumph of Judeo-Christian ethics.
The changes that have affected the unions include regulation of markets and aggregate demand, wage regulation, shift in power from ownership and the entrepreneur to technostructure. These changes have had an effect on both the white collar jobs as well as the blue collar jobs. It’s important that workers union is granted more power to bargain for the welfare of the employees and create a good employer-employee relationship that will benefit both. International laws recognize the important roles played by workers unions and the effect on the general performance of the economy. They therefore need to be accorded dignity and freedom to work for the interests of both parties involved in the industrial sector.
