Problem Statement
What is the influence of healthy food on life of individuals bearing in mind its psychological and physiological impact?
Background
The quality of our life depends on many factors, but our health is the most crucial one. Without it the happy and long life of individual is hard to be achieved. One of all the most important factors having impact on the human body is the food we consume for physical and mental performance, health, and lifespan. Nutrients in the metabolism process are transformed into structural elements of cells in our body, ensuring its vital activity. Eating unhealthy food leads to negative consequences such as diseases of the cardiovascular, gastrointestinal system, oncology and metabolic disorders.
Usually we do not pay enough attention to the way we eat not understanding the impact of nutrition on health. The meal we perceive as a kind of forced, but necessary ritual that allows us to satisfy the hunger. After all, many of our diseases are man-made diseases and we largely invoke their occurrence. When we consume more nutrition we can considerably decrease the possibility of occurrence of such diseases as diabetes, cardiovascular and liver disease, arthritis and others.
Landscape
Specialists in medicine Healthy proper nutrition is the intake and assimilation of those substances which are necessary for replenishing energy, building and repairing tissues, regulating the functioning of all organs and systems of the human body. Food is a source of energy and material to build body tissues. Biologically active substances coming with it regulate the processes of exchange. In addition, food contributes to the formation of the human immune system. Therefore, to perform all these functions food must contain all the necessary nutrients: proteins; fats; carbohydrates; fiber; vitamins; mineral substances.
The quality of food directly affects the health of the person. After all the food we eat can contain a sufficient number of useful for our health substances or insufficient. In the second case, the deficit of nutrition can cause various kinds of diseases. Therefore, it is necessary to eat different kinds of available food to properly build diet of individuals. For human diet indicators of the quality of food and its energy value and all nutrients are really important.
The needs in energy of the human body are formed as a result of its activities. The more people work, the more energy they spend. In our days, when people can barely movement to turn on the machine performing the work, consuming excessive nutrition their bodies use less and less energy. No wonder that the famous American cardiologist Raab called this effect "active sloth."
Scientists rightly believe that the majority of people not engaged in physical labor, should reduce the calorie content of your diet. At the same time, the amount of protein and other substances in food, according to many scientists, should not be reduced. Of course, the human need for energy and the amount of nutrients depends on many factors: the weight of the body and the nature of work, age, climate and gender. People should get as much food that was set (for adults) in accordance with the law of conservation of energy the following balance: how much is spent of energy and matter and so much is obtained from the outside. If this balance is disturbed, it is either obesity or emaciation. . Therefore, by examining the impact of such basic food components as proteins, carbohydrates, fats, fiber, vitamins and minerals in our body, we should switch to a proper diet and do not forget to control weight.
Options
The impact of food from our earliest childhood Women are more likely to change their style of eating only when they get to know about their pregnancy. Then they exclude from the menus overly greasy, sweet, salty or spicy foods and alcohol just for the sake of the unborn child. It also happens quite often that they refuse to eat harmful products because of the advice of the doctor. Numerous studies considering the effect of food on the health of the expectant mother, provided evidence that nutrition plays a huge, even decisive, role not only for the health of the pregnant woman, but also for the health of her child. Already in uteri the child should receive all the nutrients that are needed both for adults and young children.
(Bareth, 2016, p.64)
A recent study conducted by British scientists showed that a mother's nutrition before pregnancy is crucial for the health of her child throughout his life. This discovery must bring to the understanding of each woman that her food habits and preferences may affect the whole life of her unborn child.
«We are what our mothers ate before pregnancy» - noticed professor of the Harverd University Bill Lerner. All heard this expression: "We are what we eat". This bright idea came to mind Greek physician, "father of medicine" Hippocrates was right according to the latest research. But modern science has gone much further and their visions are reflected in saying of Lerner. Recent studies have shown that, all the food a mother eats before pregnancy is as important as what she eats during pregnancy.
The online edition of DailyMail talks about a new study by British scientists that showed that the diet of the woman prior to pregnancy have a significant impact on genes.
Working with colleagues from the Medical research Council on nutrition in the Gambia, Professor Prentice has measured the concentration of various substances in the blood of nearly 170 newly pregnant women. It important to mention that half of them begot a child in the midst of the rainy season, and half had become pregnant at the peak of the dry season. Scientists have thoroughly researched the DNA of the children of these women after they were born and interviewed local women about their diet during different seasons. Nutrition of women before pregnancy alters the activity of genes of her child.
The results showed a clear link between nutrition and genes women of her child. It is important to note that an impact of exactly what women ate before pregnancy and this was even more important than what they ate after conception. In changing the baby's DNA influenced by "epigenetic" factors. But these changes are not mutations but chemical changes that affect boby of child. It is well-known fact that not all of our genes are active all times and if they are not active enough it may cause serious problems.
Ensuring quality nutrition for your child is an important part of forming its future health. The nutrition of children of early age is a highly specific issue, due to the reason that babies are constantly growing and developing. Unlike adults, nutrition specialists, pediatric dietitian does not solve the issues of healthy eating and weight loss developing specific nutrition depending on the state of health of the child.
It is also very important to minimize the level of consumption of unhealthy food for children. During the implementation of laboratory and clinical research scientists have studied the effect of particular food on the body of children. As the result of new experiments, the scientists created a list of ingredients that have the most harmful impact on
the health of boys and girls. In the experiments the team of scientists found that restaurant food and fast food contribute to the deterioration of the bodies of children.. According to researchers, fries, chips, greasy chicken and cheeseburgers cause a range of diseases associated not only with activity of the gastrointestinal tract, and cardiovascular system. Among teenagers every year it occurs more and more that children are obese. A team of leading nutritionists claims that the chips contain too many calories and they will never be useful for human health. Parents should monitor the diet of their children, because it determines the future well being of the child.
Living with an accelerated pace, we often put on the first place not the value of health and well being (for good digestion) but the value of time. This is a big mistake. Fast food in childhood is one of the causes of excess weight in adulthood. At fast food people do not have time to experience the feeling of satisfaction and therefore often overeat. In addition, eating in a hurry, children learn to treat food as irrelevant to important act of life as they want "to slip" as soon as possible. The tendency of paying attention to what we eat can be often be neglected. That is especially true in high school. If the student remains hungry, unable to eat, or hastily swallows the food in time to use for a lesson is the wrong prioritization. It is better to let the child rather calmly drink in the morning is a cup of cocoa than choke "full breakfast harrying to school.
Physiological and psychological effects of healthy food It occurs that every emotion has a certain taste or flavor, and therefore by eating certain foods people can greatly affect their psycho-emotional state. Modern physicians have observed that psychological factors are so strong that they often dominate in the treatment on physiological factors. They have also noticed that the taste needs of a person depend on his mental and emotional state, and not on
reasonable practicability. And this is due to the fact that food is a source of not only nutrients for the physical body, but also forms his emotional potential of the psyche.
According to Ayurveda theory there are 6 tastes: sweet, sour, salt, bitter, tart, astringent. If all these flavors are present in a balanced state, then the food brings health and happiness. If this harmony is disrupted, that often depends on character flaws and behavior, diseases are to come. For example, being in a state of laziness, people want the sweet taste. The sweet taste is beneficial, but excess sugar in surplus drops defenses of the body, disrupts the metabolism and the liver, pancreas, small blood vessels, and suffers vision. It is noticed that a lot of sweet, especially in the evening is consumed by those who try to solve their problems.
Feeling sorrow the person unconsciously seeks to diversify the diet with bitter foods such as mustard, rye bread, and coffee. As a result, there is a strong possibility of chronic infections, blood and skeletal system disorders. Pessimistic man constantly tries to eat sour. Sour in excessive amounts harms the heart, lungs, stomach, intestines, joints, disrupts the internal environment of the body. Busy people just love salty foods. They are willing to eat something combining simultaneously sweet and salt. Excessively salty food is the enemy to the whole body blood vessels, bronchi, kidneys, joints.
At the same time energetic and impetuous people like overly tart food. Such food leads to diseases of the hormonal organs, bronchi, spine, joint, bone. Individuals addicted to spicy food feel anger. They are very emotional people. The consuming of such food results in inflammatory processes in the liver, pancreas, stomach, heart, genitals. The demand for fried food of humans occurs in the consequence of their rudeness, the feeling of tiredness and labor aversion. This leads to congestion of the vessels of the brain, the liver, stomach, disrupts
hormonal and immune function. Greedy people like to eat fatty food, which leads to the diseases of the stomach, liver, skeletal system and causes metabolic disorders.
The human body is a holistic system, which governs the activities of all physiological systems, coherence in the work, maintains the stability of the internal environment. Cooked food contains very little bio-regulators (plant hormones, vitamins, enzymes), it may result in a disorder of intestinal hormonal system. We lose the sense of satiety foods; eat not what we want to consume and much more than we have to.
Incorrect setting of endocrine glands is usually associated with perverted intestinal hormonal system, violating all processes without exception. One of the reason why people from childhood grow incorrectly lies within insufficient nutrition. It may result in incorrectly form of the skeleton, teeth, body, not working correctly on an internal system, changing the mentality.
Cooked food promotes the growth of pathological micro flora, as well as contaminate pores brush fringe. As a result of overeating, we suffer from lack of necessary food providing body with important elements.
The impact of advertising on what we eat New research shows that advertising affects the preference for children in the food. The fact that parents tend to prefer more healthy food is not ignored. However, when views of parents are contrary to the advertisement, it does not exert such a strong effect, as was expected by the researchers. According to the world health organization, marketing of harmful food has become an international problem, what's more, it wrapped its tentacles a child audience. If the adult does not understand that advertising is trying to persuade him to product selection, the child 4-5 years does not distinguish her from the truth. Advertising with terrifying efficiency change the habits of children in nutrition and, ultimately, leads to the appearance of chronic diseases towards the end of the school.
Product marketing for children has gained a really wide scale. In most cases marketing strategies focus on the sale of food, consisting of salt, sugar, fats and saturated animal fats. These components as we mentioned above are considered to be the basic instigators of obesity, cardiovascular disease, diabetes and cancer. Specialists have several years of fighting for stricter control of advertising.
In 2010 "Set of recommendations on marketing of foods and non-alcoholic beverages focused on children" was released by the world Health Assembly. However, in fact the situation has not changed very significantly.
Advertising of food and drinks for children is fully controlled only by six countries such as Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Spain and Slovenia. Other countries in the European region support the idea, but do not take active measures. Many consumers are not even aware of the fact that the components representing a threat to the child's body were named.
Advertising techniques have become more sophisticated. For example, to increase company sales junk food is broadcast through satellite TV. This means that even if the advertising of harmful products is forbidden, the child will still see it. For example, in Bulgaria there is 90% of advertising of harmful products that is focused on children. To attract more attention of the customers and build a brand image in the brain of a child, producers place the logos of their brands on the notebooks and other stationery.
Longevity depends on the food we consume
Health and longevity are closely associated with the nature of its power. The attitude to food has an important place in the traditional culture. The food shall meet the human needs on physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual levels.
There is undoubted evidence of the impact of food and nutrition for many important biological characteristics of the organism, in particular life expectancy, ageing, time optimal functioning of their physiological systems. There are serious reasons to believe that diet plays an important role in maintaining the mental status of the elderly.
One of the most common patterns that were demonstrated by a number of researchers in experiments on mammals of different species is the dramatic increase in life expectancy while limiting the consumption of food. For example, the lifespan of rats who consumed limited food intake increased by 50% and sometimes more compared to the control animals. It is interesting that animals with dietary restrictions considerably longer retain the ability to mate. The mechanism of these phenomena requires further analysis. It is also shown that in normal-volume diet, but reduced the protein content is also a significant increase in life expectancy. The overall level of not only protein, but individual amino acids can affect the lifespan.
So, two - and three-fold reduction of tryptophan in the diet results in a significant increase of lifetime of experimental animals. It will be recalled that tryptophan is a precursor of physiologically active substances - serotonin.
There is evidence that a diet reducing the saturated fatty acids and cholesterol led to a reduction in mortality from cardiovascular diseases in the United States, Canada and Australia. There are a number of observations that demonstrate a significant positive effect of limiting the power of man. Currently, however, there is no evidence that the increase in life expectancy achieved by dietary restrictions doesn't reduce some important functional characteristics of the organism.
Moreover, observations on animals subjected to dietary restriction show that in their behavior there is a number of deviations that should be described as negative. It should be noted that the multiplicity of effects of food makes it difficult, and in many cases impossible and unambiguous assessment of a particular power options. In this regard, the elderly are encouraged to adhere to the usual diet. Thus, the problem of influence of food on longevity is very complex and still requires solution.
Recommendations
As a result of our research we may conclude that the quality of our life largely depends on the quality of food we consume. The healthier food we eat the happier our life. We considered the physiological and psychological effects of the consuming food, determined the impact of food on the life of individual from his earliest childhood. We also paid attention to the impact of advertising on the choosing of the food we eat. We have also backed up the idea of connection between consumed food and longevity. A balanced diet with exclusion or restriction of potentially harmful products can significantly reduce the likelihood of diseases or their recurrence. When a person realizes that he eats incorrectly, he may consciously change in the future his diet so that it meets the needs of the body. He needs to carefully listen to his body, not missing a single symptom appeared, which would indicate the cause of the disease and its probable development. There is no doubt that healthy food is an essential of human well being.
