Nowadays, as more and more individuals tend to speak about matters concerning the emergence of Information Society, we should rethink our stand of preparing the society for lifestyle changes in human life. It is evident that the information society enjoys a number of benefits and advantages in several fields, which may include trade, services, production and even communication among others. I strongly believe that such fields usually affect individuals in one way or the other. Unfortunately, these fields also pose massive risks that should not be ignored or overlooked (Poser and Wenchao 271). Some of the experienced professionals believe that the improper usage of science and technology could in some way eliminate these advantages. Therefore, from the experts’ point of view, the influence of the modern science and technology on a person can either be positive or negative depending on the level of influence. People cannot live without using or relying on both science and technology. This implies that a person’s life is usually made easier, convenient and faster too. On the other hand, science and technology is making people to be incomplete since they do not receive, hence making people lazier. In order to expand some knowledge orientation is this area, we will explore the impact or influence of science and technology on individuals’ lives.
We all know that scientific understanding as well as inventions have taken both people and the world out of the anticipated dark ages. Scientific innovations have greatly improved people’s health, living standards, communication methods, transportation channels and people’s interactions. It is clear that medical field is improving at a constant pace since scientists are working tirelessly to ensure individuals receive the best health care services. Scientists have invented many reliable therapies, which assist in curing cure as well as treating a lot of chronic diseases affecting individuals. Some of these therapies are used to fight cancer, kidney complication, liver complication and injuries among others. Additionally, science and technology improve the health status of individuals by enabling them receive healthcare services at an affordable costs. This helps in decreasing the death rates among people of a certain country especially when treating chronic health conditions (Fan 170). On the other hand, some medical procedures usually put patient’s life in danger. For instance, medical procedures such as exposure to X-rays, chemotherapy and dialysis require a patient to have plenty of blood. We have heard many complaints from patients undergoing such medical processes in that some people die as they undergo the procedure while others claim of pains and other complications.
Science and Technology play a vital role in facilitating the way a person executes his or her duties at workplace. As we have seen, many employees, who work for companies with outdated technology levels or no technology, struggle a lot in increasing their productivity. In addition, blue-collar workers are normally distinguished from white-collar employees in that they execute their work manually (Das 199). Therefore, the use of science and technology at workplace especially for those manual laborers encourage them to participate effectively. Technological inventions usually enable a person perform excellently in their area of duty such as executing a lot of tasks easily, make good use of time and increasing productivity easily. On the other hand, science and technology at workplace affects a person in various ways such as he or she may lose the job easily due to deskilling. The presence of machines in a company replaces a lot of employees especially blue collar workers may be laid off as a result of being unproductive compared to the machines. These machines usually jeopardize employees’ health as well as performance since they can be very harmful. Harmful technology generally affects the health status of the person working with it. Moreover, it increases the level of unemployment within a state (Organization 90). Technological unemployment will always occur when companies replace workers with machines, thereby, sending blue collar workforce home. This implies that a modern labour market nowadays requires a person, who has the appropriate qualifications in both science and technology. An individual with skills and knowledge in science and technology will be able to handle and even operate complicated machines easily than those people without any qualification or experience. Employees with a higher computer literacy level can operate any form of computer since the basics are necessary.
The level of science and technology has improved the level of communication in various aspects. We have seen that these days interviews are being carried out over the phone as well as the email addresses. Science and technology enable a person explore the newest and even coolest gadgets such as phones, iPad, laptops, iPod and updated computers. For instance, when a person is relaxing with friends and gets bored he or she can easily play games using their phones. Phones or iPads can really keep a person busy in circumstances, where such boredom exists. It is evident that an individual can compete with his or her friends in playing mobile phone games. Mobile manufacturing companies are competing with each in a move to win customers over as well as gaining a competitive edge over the rival business. Due to stiff competition, these companies engage their scientists in a tirelessly move to introduce upgraded mobile phones with outstanding features, which provide appropriate company especially when an individual is bored. Advanced mobile phones nowadays enable people to chat online with their friends who are at a far distance (Bowler 100). When a person uses these phones, he or she is in a position to access social websites such as Facebook, Twitter and MySpace among others. Here, he or she can share with friends as well as meeting and making new friends; hence it is a socializing platform. However, due to enhanced features of these phones, many people become addicted and thus cannot concentrate on anything else apart from playing with the phone. This habit can affect their performance at place of work since they cannot let their phones down even when working. Therefore, this behavior can influence negatively the productivity of the person of work or education.
In a nutshell, modern science and technology can impact a person’s life either negatively or positively. We appreciate the advancement of both science and technology since it brings many merits or benefits enjoyed by the dependants. Some of the benefits enjoyed may include productivity at place of work, improvement in treatment methods or processes and communication processes advancements. This implies that science and technology introduces better methods or curing chronic health conditions such as cancer, improves communication gadgets such as iPads and iPhones and also enabling manual laborers increase their productivity. On the other hand, science and technology can jeopardize a person’s productivity at places of work, introduced medical procedures can put the patient’s health as well as life at stake. Therefore, modern science and technology can influence a person habit either positively or negatively.
