The kiss is a book by Kate Chopin, which was written on September 19, 1894 and was first published on January 17 1895. The book shows how a character that is dishonest as well as bad could be. The characters in the story include Brantain, Nathalie as well as Harvey. The story takes place in the home of Nathalie and her brother as well as at Brantain and Nathalie’s wedding. In addition to that, there are some places, which are unspecified in the story (Chopin 2002).
According to her, people should not be judged by their appearance. For instance, Nathalie falls in love with two men. These are Harvey as well as Brantain. From the story, Nathalie chooses Brantain instead of Harvey just because he is rich. This means that she is materialistic as well as judgmental. After her wedding ceremony with Brantain, Harvey appears and say exclaims that Bratain has sent him to kiss her. As she tries to give him the kiss Harvey immediately tells her that he has stopped kissing women. This shows that Nathalie is not yet decided and she is at cross roads. In addition to that, Nathalie appears to be ruthless in the story. This is because she clearly understands that she cannot mix independence and sensual satisfaction.
Tuesday siesta is a book by Gabriel Garcia, which was first published in the year 1962 in Mexico. In this short story, Gabriel does not include magical realism as in the other books. Instead, he approaches it from a political as well as a personal point of view as he brings out that the oppression of the low class people by those in the higher economic class. He inadvertently alludes to the historical developments which eventually led to the exploitation of the low-level citizens in the third world country. The point that their fellow citizens faced a more patent bias from the foreign entities does actually not alleviate according this book, the scrutiny that the people of low social class face.
There is a constant mention of heat and shade in the story, which is followed simultaneously, by the mentioning of banana as well as almond trees. It is pertinent to note that almond trees possess huge leaves that allow a person to prevent the hotness of the sun during the hottest days. This is as opposed to the banana leaves. The location where the alleged thief resided was littered with vast banana plantations, which was different from the place where he had been killed. Carlos Centeno was the alleged thief. The town where he is killed is crucial to illustrate the class barriers that have been instituted to form a rigorous as well as an exclusive social class. This town is closely knit and is highly safe. It was larger and it had features as well as stores showing that its inhabitants were better off than that of the town where Carlos originated (MaÌrquez 1984).
Further belief came upon the finding of the body the next morning especially in the clothes that he wore. Carlos attire clearly indicated that he was poor and did not fit to the town either. In addition to that, the priest himself is condescending on Carlo’s mother when he inquires whether she is trying to right his wrongs. The pries looks for someone to blame in particular instead of considering an oppressive system. This system did not grant Carlos a chance to proper education, which would provide him with the necessary tools to rescue his family from the severe poverty. This shows how the people in the upper social class oppress the people in the low class.
