There are various similarities and differences in the lead-up to the Texas and American Revolution. From the outset it is important to note that prior to the Revolutions, Texas and America were colonies. Accordingly, the two revolutions were caused by the need to be free from external interference in the running of the affairs of the respective State and country. The Texas Revolution was motivated by the need for the State to free itself from the Spanish colonial rule and later from the control of its affairs by the Mexican government which considered Texas to be part of its territories. Initially, although Texas was a colony of Spain and a territory of Mexico, the latter accorded the State some autonomy to determine its affairs. However, prior to the Texas Revolution, Mexico sought to increase its control over the State but its endeavors led to resistance that subsequently caused the start of the Texas Revolution.
On the other hand, the American Revolution was motivated by the need for the colony to eradicate the British colonial rule. It is important to note that at first, even though America was under the colonial rule of the British, the latter left the colonies within America largely to determine their affairs. Britain allowed the colonies to take part in determining their future through their representatives. However, prior to the American Revolution, Britain was more concerned that it was losing control over the colonies and tried to increase its control through enacting various legislations without the involvement of the American representatives within the colonies. The colonists resisted the legislations that the British government enacted in a bid to increase its influence over the American colonies hence they opted to go to war in order to rid themselves of the colonizer.
The foregoing is a proper comparison and favors a narrative favorable to Mexico because Texas sought to fight to free itself from the Mexican rule, much like American colonies were seeking to fight to get rid of the British rule from among their territories.
