The Mind of a Rampage Killer is one of the most compelling documentaries I have ever watched. The film opens with the newscast of the rampage killings on the Television screen, and the question that comes to us is, what led to the killings. Then, the report takes us to the neuroscience. Nova goes deep in the mind of the killers to understand what makes them decide to kill. He uses the example of the baby rats as they usually lick on their mothers in the first time of their life so that they become calm when they grow up (Kane). The babies that got much attention from their parents have good genes of humbling while those that never got the attention become hard to handle their stress when they mature up. Nova explains that the teenage mind undergoes rapid changes that need extra attention. Therefore, handling stress at this stage is crucial because it might lead to cases such as suicidal brains, and depression that springs up later in different ways (O'Brien 9).
Nova takes to the science to enable us understand the real causes of the killings; the scientist reveals that the mass killing must be a source of something gone wrong in the brain. This situation means that such a person might have had a mind of dying, was depressed or was affected when he was young. Nova explores various things that might have led to the rampage killings; he talks about how nature and nurture can affect a child’s development, which is later reflected in the adult stage (Kane). This process in life shapes the human psychology and personality. According to science, the children who mature close to their parents are unlikely to be offended easily by life challenges. I think these children would manage to handle stress in a more positive way compared to those who stayed away from their parents. Such groups of individuals are easily angered, and they are always violent (O'Brien 8).
The social pressure and the mental state that children go through affects their social development, and most of them end up being stressed and depressed in life. The mind of the rampage killings talks of the opinions on how to handle such people, but it does not go deeper to explain how this problem arises in the individuals. A major thing to consider is the cause of the rampage killing, and evaluate whether the situation was a rampage killing or just mass shootouts. The school can help to take early precautions to shape the behavior of the children that are not very aggressive and violent. The parents and teachers need to evaluate the major cause of the problem by talking to them in order to read their mind. This process will also help them know their kids' life experiences that might have led to such risky behavior (Mellor 9).
According to the therapists, the earlier the intervention, the better the reduction aspect of aggressiveness; the parents should work with their children to know how they can handle their emotions. They should also pay attention to the factors that might be affecting their emotions and anger. The teachers and the chancellors are the best people to help handle the mental problems faced by these children through counseling. I think that the early intervention is the best prevention for the children who are violent at the age of adolescents. The problem that people do not realize is that they wait until something goes wrong is when they start looking for a possible cause for taking legal action (Mellor, 12).
