The promotion of healthy foods consumption among the children could be enhanced through raising their awareness about the importance of such foods. “According to Wang et al. (2015), different childhood obesity intervention studies conducted in schools in the United States support the evidence of effective intervention programs and involvement of the home, family, and community to make healthful food choices for childhood obesity prevention.” Cultural, social, and particular individual habits and behavior influence food-decision. Marketing, pricing, and packaging of snacks have attracted popularity among the people, which has influenced them to change to unhealthy feeding habits. However, there is a need to create positive awareness for the need to change from these foods to healthy foods among the people. Various programs have been established to sensitize the people on the need to eat healthy foods and to prevent childhood obesity.
The original text is extracted from the last paragraph of week one paper. “It is essential to study the interplay of marketing factors as well as social, cultural and individual characteristics that can influence food decisions. The marketing communication, food pricing, packaging and the eating environment are important marketing actions (Chandon & Wansink, 2012). Nevertheless, it is important to promote consumption of healthier food among children by raising their awareness. Parents and children should give more importance to health over taste, price, and convenience when deciding on food choices. According to Wang et al. (2015), different childhood obesity intervention studies conducted in schools in the United States support the evidence of effective intervention programs and involvement of the home, family, and community to make healthful food choices for childhood obesity prevention.”
The topic sentence supports the thesis statement that there is a need to change from unhealthy to healthy feeding habits by carrying out food programs. Instead of blaming advertisements and marketing of snacks, we should come up with ways that can help in the transition from feeding on unhealthy to healthy foods. Direct quotes and paraphrased sentences add credibility to my claims. The White House Task Force on Childhood Obesity program has been started to sensitize the people on childhood obesity and ways to prevent it in the U.S. (Barnes, 2011). These quotes emphasize on factors that contribute to obesity; modern life influence where the people engage in little or no physical exercise and the emergence of convenience foods. The support my claim by highlighting strategies to reduce childhood obesity; substituting carbonated drinks with freshly blended juice, buying toys for children to play outside by running up and down and in return exercise their bodies. The main argument in the quotes and paraphrases is that healthy feeding can be promoted through reducing high fat intake; people should feed children with baked foods to replace fries such as chips, thus supporting my claim (Ludwig, 2007).
