Writing a plan using a DISC assessment for a department
Writing a Plan from using a DISC Assessment for a Department
DISC is an acronym that stands for Dominance Style, Interactive Style, Steadiness Style and Cautious Style. People in the Dominance Style are said to be goal-oriented go-getters. They are at their best when in charge. Their focus is on the no-nonsense approach to bottom-line outcomes. The Interactive Style group is the kind that wants to be where the action is. They thrive on the acknowledgement, admiration and compliments that come from being in the limelight. They are relationship-oriented as opposed to being task-oriented.
The Steadiness Style group is those that are people oriented. They are supportive, warm and keen on nurturing individuals. They like to maintain the status quo and become distressed when changes occur. The Cautious-Style group is details-oriented. They are more concerned with content as opposed to style. They are persistent, analytical and systematic individuals that enjoy engaging in problem-solving. These styles categorize people according to their behavior and are used to help determine how best to handle such groups.
A given organization’s human resource is the most valuable resource in its possession (ILTA, 2004). This calls for a need to ensure that employees are well taken care of so as to keep them motivated enough. In so doing, employees will be able to deliver on their duties. A DISC analysis on a given organization will be helpful in trying to understand the needs of employees. This paper seeks to develop a work plan for Professional Placement Resources, LLC (PPR)’s Customer Service department.
PPR is a small staffing company based in Florida. Its customer service department plays a vital role in the general performance of the company. This is because most of the operations of PPR are over the telephone. This paper seeks to come up with a work plan that will foster employee motivation, satisfaction and performance.
A questionnaire will be administered on each employee to rate themselves. The questionnaire will contain questions that will help in grouping employees according to the DISC Platinum Rule. First, each employee will fill a questionnaire answering questions about their fellow colleagues. Then, another questionnaire will be administered on each employee. This particular questionnaire will be aimed at collecting individual information.
The first questionnaire will be anonymously administered to each employee. Each employee will be required to assess each one of their colleagues. The results of the assessment will then be analyzed and grouped according to the DISC structure. This grouping will make it possible for the management to address needs of employees commensurate to their behavioral orientation.
After employees have been grouped, a questionnaire will be prepared that will have questions touching on motivation, satisfaction and performance. Each employee will be given the questionnaire to rate themselves. The data collected will be analyzed as per the DISC group. Issues arising shall then be handled as per the needs of the given group. In so doing, solutions will be formulated based on the employee’s behavior orientation. This will help every employee’s behavior orientation is taken into consideration and solutions suggested will be custom-made to fit the interests of a given group.
Grouping of employees in any organization is a big step towards ensuring that management takes good care of its employees. It provides a better understanding of employee needs, weaknesses and strengths. This information is vital in assignment of duties in a given organization as well as in conflict resolution.
