The Police Work
The confession is the title of the video clip that I will be discussing in this paperwork. I will, therefore, identify the positive or notable actions by the police, any issues with police behavior that cause my concern, any illegal or unconstitutional acts by the police , and finally specify the constitutional Amendments the police actions may have violated in the course of duty as depicted by the video- the confession. The confession is written and directed by Ofra Bikel.
As illustrated by the video, the confession, it is clear that those people, law enforcement officers, who misuse their power, will not go unpunished. Detective Robert Glenn Ford, who is now retired according to the video, is a good example of those people in power who end up misusing their muscles- he was a corrupt detective who was willing to extort money from people. Detective Robert Glenn Ford acts did not go unpunished, since the law together with the help the police were able to conduct a thorough research, whereby, Detective Robert Glenn Ford was found guilty on two of four extortion charges- he was declared guilty in the month of October 2010. It is important to note that the police played a vital role in ensuring that justice was advocated- by apprehending detective Robert Glenn Ford. The police officers who have been practicing illegal acts should learn from this video clip, the confession, before their illegal deeds are exposed. The video is more educative to both the citizens and the law enforcement officers. Punctuality is another notable police behavior illustrated by the video, the confession, whereby, after alerting the law enforcement officers, they responded to the call within the shortest time possible. Michelle neighbor, Daniel William, is said to have taken the action of alerting the law enforcement officers, after learning of the incidence from Michelle husband. It is also important to note that the law enforcement officers were swift enough in implementing the measures that would lead them to apprehending the offender of the crime. Michelle is depicted by the video, the confession, as being raped and finally murdered, meaning that the use of the forensic tools would have played a significant role in identifying the offender. As depicted in the video, the confession, it is now clear that the law enforcement officers portray a notable behavior by implementing the investigations without postponement. As the investigation intensified, the law enforcement officers were willing to institute new suspects who would help in identifying the actual offenders of the crime- murder of Michelle. According to the video, the confession, we learn that Eric Wilson has to seek for permission, first, before relocating in a new neighborhood, as a result of the crime, whereby, the society believes that he was involved. Eric Wilson also has to register as a sex offender- the registration happens every twelve months. According to my stand, this is a notable acts carried out by the law enforcement officers, since it enhances security in the society (The confessions; written by Ofra Bikel).
The video, the confession, depict that Daniel William drove all the way to the naval station, whereby, he was expected to respond to the following subject- why he took the action of alerting the law enforcement officers of the incidence, since according to them, the law enforcement officers, the husband was the rightful person to have informed them. According to the video, the confession, it is illustrated that the interrogation was so severe, therefore, resulting to sham confession. In the interrogation room, it is illustrated that a number of tests were performed that proved the fact that Daniel William had nothing to do with the crime, but detective Robert Glenn Ford, who is described as a bulldog, forced Daniel William to accept things that he never did- accepting that he committed the crime. Daniel William, therefore, describes how he carried out the crime- hitting her at the back of the head with his hand and finally raping her. It is later found out that Michelle was stabbed, meaning that the confession given by Daniel William was not accurate, hence the need for a fresh investigation. Daniel William, therefore, is forced to improve his story, so that it could match to the new findings, as illustrated by the video-the confession.
After the forensic results were released, there was no match that could have linked Daniel William with the crime that led to the death of Michelle. The law enforcements officers decided to conceal the forensic results. According to the video, the confession, it is now clear that the video tries to disclose the crooked behaviors that are conducted by the law enforcements officers. It is unethical concealing vital evidences that could have set the suspects free. According to the video, the interrogation room reveals the extreme use of force by the law enforcement officers, so as to obtain reasonable proof that could have helped them get the real offender of the crime. Through a literature review, it is depicted that law enforcements can use force or give fake promises so as to get relevant evidences from a suspect, but according to the video, the confession, the law enforcement officers are revealed to have used overused their power- forcing the suspects to give a false confession. According to the video, the confession, there is a brief illustration of what happens in an interrogation room, for example the following questions are mostly employed in an interrogation room: are you deaf, and then talk louder, you want to go to jail of you want to face a death penalty, tell me what I want so that I can help you, or you think we are wasting time- these questions are illustrated by Jay Salpeter who happens to be a former NYPD detective. According to Jay, a former NYPD detective, he makes it clear that a suspect can give a false confession as a result of the psychology of false confession (The confession-http://video.pbs.org/video/1637166286).
Detective Robert Glenn Ford was good at forcing suspects to give a false confession, for example; Erick Wilsons, John Danser, Derek Tice, Joe Dicks, and Omar Ballard were all forced to give a false confession. Omar Ballard, agreed of having committed the crime that led to the death of Michelle, but the law enforcements officers were not willing to acknowledge the truth. The use of forensic science matched, thereby, linking Omar Ballard to the crime. Detective Robert Glenn Ford tricked Omar Ballard, so that he could a false confession that they committed the crime as a group. Robert Glenn Ford promised Omar Ballard of avoiding the death penalty as long as he was willing to act in accordance with his demands- that conducted the crime as a group. Omar Ballard is finally entrapped, since he ends up giving a false confession. It is important to note that, tricking a suspect is considered unconstitutional- the behavior conducted by the law enforcement officers is branded as entrapment. It is also illustrated in the video, the confession, that the law enforcement officers were reluctant in taping the true confession. It is illegal for a law enforcements officer to false a suspect change his or her confession so as to conform to their thoughts. Through a literature review, it has been depicted that some of the law enforcement officers are good at forcing suspects give a false confession, so as to be considered as working effectively the society. The law enforcement officers should, therefore, implement a step by step approach when trying to establish a rigid foundation that would lead to the identification of the real offender. According to the video, the confession, John Danser was introduced into the crime that led to the murder of Michelle through the use of force. John attested that he was having a birthday party during the time the crime was taking place, but Robert Glenn Ford was not willing to let him walk out of the case. It is illustrated in the video that Robert Glenn Ford accepted the fact that John could not have been involved in the crime, but out of his own personal interest, he forced him to give a false confession (The confessions; written by Ofra Bikel).
The law enforcement officers have violated the following constitutional amendments-malicious examination and sham apprehension. It is vividly clear that the law enforcement officers defiled their fourth amendment right against unreasonable apprehension. The video, the confession, make it clear that the law enforcement officers had no solid evidences that could have resulted to the apprehension of the suspects. After conducting the Forensic test, the results were clear that the suspects were not connected to the crime that led to the death of Michelle. The numerous tests conducted gave out negative results, thereby, leaving the law enforcements officers with no probable cause to believe that the suspects had been involved or committed the crime- raping and murdering Michelle. The interrogation was also not fair, whereby; the suspects were forced to give a false confession. The suspects’ right of an attorney was also violated, whereby; detective Robert Glenn Ford continued with the interrogation even after the suspects requests for an attorney. The fourth amendment right to freedom was also violated by the law enforcement officers. the suspects were not given a chance to think freely, but they were expected to think according to what the law enforcement officers believed in, thereby, resulting to a false confession. According to my stand, the video contains numerous problems that are implemented by the law enforcement officers. The video, the confession, could help the law enforcement officers change their way of doing things such as the method used in collecting evidences from the suspects (Hirschel, 1979).
