Summary
Islam is the dominant religion in most parts of Malaysia. Most people have managed to balance both physical and spiritual developments in this religion. This culture was recently marked during the previous celebrations of the inception of Islam Hadhari. According to the Prime Minister, it aimed at maintaining the set morals and ethics of the religion. However, media has a great role in achieving civilization to all in the Islam community, in the country.
However, tension still prevails between nationalism and globalization. Nationalism is bound to promote the modernity in every society while globalization encourages use of the recent technology in communication that promotes the spread of the religion. However, at some point, these two items can only be a mere imagination in real life if the right channels are not used to achieve them.
Media has an important role to play in spreading this global culture of nationalism and globalization. Malaysian Idol program aired on the national television is a good example of the results of globalization. Feedback that includes dynamic responses and resistance on the impact of globalization and nationalism is achieved. This is an important tool in determining the changes and developments which are required in order to achieve these key economic components in the Islam religion.
My Opinion
The media industry should aim at reviving its programs in order to get the attention of most audience. This will be a great success in promoting and achieving globalization and modernity in the country. I support the authors’ view that globalization has a major impact in shaping the people’s behaviors, way of life and media content. While attaining a global culture is very challenging, there is need to balance religion, culture and modernity when creating TV shows. The industry should also integrate the latest trends in the world of technology to reach as many people as possible. These integrations should however, not be dictated by globalization and imperialism forces.
