The Olympic Games are very popular today; thus, many countries do their best in order to get a chance to host it. There are both positive and negative impacts of the Olympics on the host country. In the following essay, I would like to discuss the statement that the Winter Olympic Games is a good investment for the hosting country. In my opinion, there are different factors that prove the benefits of hosting the Olympic Games, which are economic and cultural advantages. In fact, it was found that although countries should invest a lot of money into new buildings and infrastructure, the hosting country will still benefit from it because it can use these buildings in the future for its own use (Wihbey, 2014). Additionally, good infrastructure and improved tourism facilities attract a larger number of tourists every year. Therefore, winter Olympic Games is a good investment into development and better future of the host country. It is pivotal in the tourism sector for the country to have decent accommodation, cultural events, restaurants and infrastructure in order to attract a lot of tourists. Moreover, the fact that the city hosted the Olympic Games will popularize the city worldwide. Also, it is very important for the host country to guarantee safety during the Olympic Games for both participants and tourists (Cashman, 2002). Therefore, an investment into Olympics will improve living standards in the country. Thus, both tourists and locals can benefit from Olympic Games. Lastly, according to the China Study lecture “Skiing in China has seen rapid growth and a boom in development” (Canadian Tourism Commission, 2012). However, many people are unhappy with the standards and prefer to go to South Korea’s ski resorts because they offer higher safety standards (Canadian Tourism Commission, 2012). Based on this fact, it is clear that Olympics will improve the quality and safety of the Chinese ski resorts.
