The United States of America has faced a lot of challenges in the recent past and many more are coming in the foreseen future. Many of these challenges affect all citizens regardless of their social status. The problems emanate from both the public and administration and they are economical issues as well as partisan depending on the stance that Americans and the administration takes in the quest to realize the American dream.
First and foremost, the issue the Affordable Care Act also known as Obamacare has brought reforms that affect millions of Americans and millions of dollars are involved. Studies indicate that in the long run Americans stand to lose out because in a few years time, there will be no doctors to take care of the growing number of patients because more than half of the practicing doctors oppose this. In the eyes of Thompson, Obamacare will see to it that small companies will shift their employees to part time status and they will not be covered (23).
Aside from Obamacare, America is faced with the problem of terrorism acts from the countries of the Middle East. With the rise of security problem, there has been a need to increase funding to the security sector at the expense of other sectors. This means that the lives of all Americans are directly or indirectly affected by the whole issue of terrorism and increased insecurity (Gaines & Kapeller 67).
There is also the problem of jobs and income for a majority of Americans. There is a growing trend where the economy is continuously shedding off middle class jobs and companies seeking subsidized costs of production in other countries in the name of globalization. Job security is seemingly becoming a pipe dream and the livelihoods of many families are put on the line.
These are the very basic economic and health problems but there are a myriad others which contribute to the diminishing of the American dream. These are spiritual, social and cultural problems. They are real and can only be solved by the people, the relevant institutions and the government (Walker, Spohn & DeLone 49). They couple up as coherence crises and are also real.
