Dubbed SHRM, the Society for Human Resource Management is a professional membership organization that caters for global leadership in employee and employee issue management. The society has close to 285,000 members spread across approximately 165 countries. Some of the notable countries under its representation include China, India, the US, and the UAE. The organization operates as a world leader in the provision of resources that serve the professional requirements of HRMs (SHRM, 2016). That said, the following is a discussion of some of SHRM’s resources that can be beneficial to nurse leaders.
First, the publication section offers numerous material such as magazines, news articles, and books, as published by SHRM. The material is a collection of credible information on some of the HR issues facing nurse leaders in contemporary organizational management. For instance, at the time of this research, one article, written by Stephen Miller, addressed the applicability of the Affordable Care Act in post-Obama administration. The publication notes that there is a possibility that the next administration, be it Clinton or Trump, would repeal ACA. Given such changes, however, employers favor the need to incorporate some of the primary elements of ACA in their future health plans (Miller, 2016).
Second, the legal issues section provides adequate information on existing labor laws and their applicability in a variety of workplace environments. This section acknowledges that nurse leaders work in environments that face a series of legal decisions, regulations, and legislations. Thus, information on OSHA, for instance, would act as a guideline for nurse executives to promote a working environment that adheres to workplace safety. Third, nurse leaders need the appropriate HR certification as proof that they are competent administrators. The SHRM’s Education section offers the required educational resources to help them attain such objectives. The particular products under this section include certificate preparation, seminars, and graduation examinations (SHRM, 2016).
