Nikhil, an Indian teenage boy from deep town of Gujarat called Junagadh, finds himself in a bit trouble when a sudden pain starts in his lower abdomen one fine afternoon. By evening, he was hospitalized with a diagnosis of acute Pancreatitis. Nikhil has not even heard what pancreatitis means. This illness occurred just after his results from 12th grade, which was not good enough to get him a good med school in his state. He had to get admission in a college far away from home. Nikhil has always struggled to achieve anything he desires throughout his life. He couldn’t figure out his puberty and clumsiness in his thoughts, not to mention his inability to take any decision and his overweight body. He was a typical underdog. He didn’t realize that how badly he required resurrection. When he first met Shona, she was sad and alone in a corner. He felt an excruciating need of rescuing her from that grief. He talks to her and makes her smile again. After a week, they were in love. Nikhil knew he had to do a lot better to deserve her. Shona belongs from a conservative Bengali family. During the first year of college, both of them struggled badly to understand each other. They fell prey for wide criticism from friends, teachers. These obstacles made their love and trust very strong. At this point of time the one decision Nikhil took, that changed his life forever was to propose her for marriage. He was 19 at that time, and she was 21 and they never had any physical relationship so far! She agreed with a blink of an eye.
When Shona’s elder brother got the news of her little affair, he arranged a meeting with Nikhil. He called Nikhil near a lake just outside their college and started to hit him with an iron-rod for 15 minutes. After this near death experience, Nikhil’s confidence miraculously multiplied instead of declining. He called Shona about this incident and instead of taking revenge; he thought to forgive her brother and went ahead on the path of straightening his life. Now, he was no more an underdog. He started taking wise decisions and learned to stick to them. He became focused on the study and also started a part time job in the game lounge. He and Shona designed their future dream by dream. Eve now Nikhil’s struggles were not over. But now, he had a companion to rescue him right back from every misery of life. After that event with Shona’s brother, they successfully hid their relationship from her family for another 7 years. Both of them got the same job in the same company. Finally, Nikhil decided to formally meet Shona’s father and ask his daughter’s hand for marriage. During last summer vacation, Shona went home and told her father all about Nikhil and what happened between her brother and Nikhil. Her father came to meet Nikhil and joined both his hands and asked for forgiveness from Nikhil for the behavior of his son. He personally promised their marriage and blessed the couple. At this time, Nikhil was 25 years old, and Shona’s father was 59!
They got married in Bangalore and now they have two kids.
After 2 years of their marriage, they owned the biggest hospital in the town and a café exclusively for the lovers like them. During a party, one of Nikhil’s friends asked him about the secret of his successful love story. Nikhil gave him an answer that left his friend speechless.
He said, “The only thing I and Shona had in common was the failed marriage of both our parents. Their hopeless lives gave the immense strength to keep our love alive.”
