Myra Morningstar opened UMUC near the college campus in 1995 (Turban and Linda 14). The UMUC Haircut began as a barbershop with only one chairperson. Myra has succeeded in expanding the enterprise over the years to include hair styling for both genders. Currently, the barber has three barber chains, styling and shampoo chains. Myra is responding to her customers’ requests for the addition of two more stations for manicures. In the early business when the start up started, it was the only barbershop within a ten-mile radius and every year the business has been able to get additional customers. Currently, other barbershops have started in this area such as Hair Cutlery to offer services to women styling. An exorbitant spa has opened a shopping centre to offer hair styling together with manicures. UMUC Haircuts continues to receive profits and growth as Myra improves the operation of scheduling, marketing, and supply management.
In the section of Customer and Employee Scheduling Myra engages with customers through phone conversation and accepts face to face conversation. Myra accepts walk-in customers once there is a vacancy in the time slot. As the business expands, Myra tracks the employees working in a particular time and day and matches with the customer appointments. Myra permit staffs to decide on the days they are comfortable to work and the time they want to work since most of them work part time. It is difficult for an employee to find a substitute in the event they cannot come to work (Turban and Linda 22). Myra has recently noticed that her strategy turns away most of the walk-in customers and other times the staff is not busy. Myra has to improve the process of scheduling the staff and the customers to receive more revenue and profit margins.
In the section of Supply Management, Myra has been able to employ additional part-time barbers, stylists, and shampoo employees. Similarly, the manager is contemplating to add extra manicurists. Myra has the concern of maintaining an adequate stock of supply. The manager encounters difficulties in keeping track of suppliers used and the orders requested. If any of the supplies run out it is impossible to serve customers. Myra makes some notes and sticks them on the office board to remind her to make orders for new supplies before an employee calls on her to tell her that only one container is remaining in the supply cabinet. At times, everyone is busy and easily forgets to take note for the orders needed for the running of the business. Myra can use the slow days to update her records on supplies and schedule for the employees. Myra is content that the growth of the business and the schedule for the employees and the customers will ensure enough stock for running a business.
In the section of Customer Information and Marketing Myra has been able to recognize the regular customers that normally come to UMUC Haircuts. Some of the customers call in and request for appointments with the favorite stylist or barber. Myra does not have the contacts of the customers to enable her get assurance they will continue coming. Myra has to find a way to communicate with the employees to provide them with special offers during ceremonies and other events to market a business (Turban and Linda 26). UMUC has to integrate a company website to provide a link for communication between the clients and the management so that they can be aware of such offers.
The business process analysis for a Health Fitness Centre will require a proper understanding of technology for one to apply a purposeful model. A model of the business process analysis must be adjustable to correct any inefficiency. The model must apply a desired technology solution to meet the intended objective. Myra has to identify strategic business area to improve the haircut business and identify the process to improve with the help of technology. The manager will create a model for the process that will define all the steps and aid in the analysis of the problem in the proposed IT solution that will support the improved process. The proposed information technology will revise the business process in the appropriate UMUC Haircuts. The proposed solution will improve the business process in the industry.
