Throughout the world history, the Jews were highly discriminated. They were considered to be chosen by God as the world’s first and most essential nation, but it never seemed like God protected them much. In the ancient times, their temples were destroyed twice. They were turned into slaves several times, and many times they wondered around Europe, unable to find a shelter. The biggest evidence of Jewish discrimination was, of course, World War II. During the WWII, many Jews fell victims of Hitler’s policy against them. Hitler destroyed the entire Poland because it was fully packed with the Jews who moved here from other European countries that didn’t allow them to stay. Hitler fought for the concept of racial purity, and Jews, being very different from most Germans in terms of their religion and appearance, became a target for abuse and slaughter. They were forced to wear special clothes that had labels on it, so that other people could easily spot the Jews in the crowd. Such public insult became a normal thing for the world at some point. Not only did such thing happen during the World War II: the Jews were discriminated before and after, and all over the world. Many Jews left Russia and moved to New York, searching for religious freedom.
For many years, the Jews were separated from the entire world. During the Medieval period, the Jews were sent from their homeland and spread all over the world. And for that, we can as well blame Christianity. The religion, which considered itself to be all-loving and all-accepting, actually expressed hatred towards the Jewish communities. The main reason was the fact that the Jews rejected the teachings of Jesus Christ (it is known that Judaism and Christianity are united by only the Old Testament). Judaism based on the teachings of prophet Abraham and all the men that came after him. The Jews worship Yahweh (Father of Jesus) as their one and only God, and thus, they argue with the Christians, who claim that Christ was the son of Yahweh and is also divine. Since the Christian community became the world’s largest religious community, it didn’t want anything to do with the Jews and helped the discrimination to flourish. Christianity was considered to be the only correct religion in the world, and it viewed all the other religions as “wrong.”
Fortunately, nowadays the situation looks better. Everything started with the abolishment of the shameful clothes. To bed her pardon, Germany granted the Jews with citizenship, which would allow them to live in the country and study for free. In fact, any Jew can enter Germany and claim its citizenship. The Jews are able to attend public schools and universities all over the world, which never happened before. In fact, it is known that the Jews are the ones who are willing to get a high quality education in the fields like law and medicine. People finally understood that the wisdom of people didn’t depend on their ethnicity. The Jews can now marry the Christians and bring their children to Christian schools if Jewish schools are not in their area of habitat.
However, some of the things didn’t change from the ancient and the Medieval times: some people still make insulting comments about the Jews, and in some communities, like conservative Christian ones, the Jews are still being looked down on. Many illiterate people are unaware of the Jewish traditions, and they behave offensively when they witness the Jews praying in the public spaces. Of course, this can be corrected by raising the global awareness and teaching people to appreciate and respect diversity.
