The chasing zero targets the consumers, the people who give care and also the leaders in the health care sector. Its goal generally is inspiring these professionals to act in prevention of health care harm. People think that there is healing and hope in the hospitals but these hospitals can be very scary places for the patients. The professional in these hospitals are trying to help these patients. These best hospitals we know can be very dangerous because many people nowadays die because of health care harm. The war itself is not targeting the bad people but it is targeting the bad systems which are used.
More than 100,000 people since 1999 die because of the health care harm. This can be more shocking because this number can be brought to zero and it is very possible. There is a lot of fear of shame, practice and cost which is the major barrier in taking action. The new research shows that half of the hospitals boards they does not rate quality as the top priority. The quality of the hospital care for the Americans is receiving an ongoing concern (Lieber, 2015, p89). There is lack of knowledge and also denial about the poor average in the quality in the hospitals.
The war on harm can be won by activating the hospital makers. The weapons which are against the health care harm are the leadership, the safe practices and the technology. The great leaders will take risk and they will also invest in technology (Lieber, 2015, p216). There are very many victims of bad systems. So there is story power which is a secret weapon to challenge leaders to have change by saving lives, saving money and have value in the communities.
