Questions and Answers
1) Medication in a college environment should be and is a mandatory requirement for those suffering through this disorder. Considering the nature of schizophrenia and the very realistic statement that many people who have this disorder do not recognize it, mandatory medication is in some cases quite helpful. While medicating an individual is typically allowed to be by choice, a disorder such as schizophrenia that can allow harm to come to the affected individual and others is best kept in check with medication. Brichford (2016) explains that it is understandable why individuals who understand their disorder would not wish to be medicated, as the side effects can include fatigue, nausea, weight gain, and several other detrimental scenarios. However much of a choice individuals should be given in matters of alleviating their disorder through medication, when harm to themselves and others is involved it is beneficial to all to make medication for such disorders mandatory. The liability otherwise would be tremendous.
