The research is based on the diagnosis of a 30-years old women, who came to the hospital with sudden weight loss and persistent headaches. She was not pregnant, and the blood pressure remained normal. It was decided to run a blood test to see what was going on. During the research it got obvious that the reason of patient's poor health conditions was in increased level of sugar in the organism.
All cells of the human body contain sugar (glucose), which is their main source of energy; the stable glucose level is especially important for the normal functioning of red blood cells and nerve cells. Regular blood glucose level lies in physiological framework from 3.3 to 5.5 mmol/l4, it is regulated by physiological processes of carbohydrate metabolism and the interaction of the nervous and endocrine systems. When the level of sugar in the blood is at first not accompanied by any changes or the patient does not give them value, but in his body occurs destructive changes. Therefore, in order to maintain good health, the patient needs to know what symptoms appear when the level of blood glucose.
The main signs that warn about elevated blood sugar are: - frequent urination with an increase in the amount of urine; - constant thirst and dry mouth, especially during the night; - fatigue, lethargy, and severe weakness; - nausea, sometimes vomiting; - persistent headaches; - sudden weight loss; - there may be a sharp deterioration of vision. The large fluctuations in the level of glucose in the blood happen in the next cases: - at fall below 3.1 mmol/l; - with the rise of more than 30 mmol/l (Ferry Jr.).
Therefore the patient should contact with a doctor when meeting symptoms that may indicate hyperglycemia.
The blood glucose level may change when short-term physiological processes in the body (increased physical activity, stressful situations), due to improved energy metabolism in the cells, or when consuming large quantities of carbohydrates in foods. Persistent increase blood sugar may occur in pathological processes of the gastrointestinal tract, pathology of the liver, during inflammatory diseases of endocrine glands (pancreas, hypothalamus, adrenal and pituitary), in case of hormonal imbalance due to pregnancy.
The presence of signs of increased blood sugar requires timely examination, determine the reason and purpose of quality treatment, otherwise the patient can develop irreversible changes in tissues and organs of vascular disease, neuropathy, sluggish infectious processes, diseases of the skin, sleep disturbance and depression. Therefore, if the patient manifests one or more of the specific symptom, she has to consult with a therapist, and then with the endocrinologist. This visit will help to determine what reasons caused the increase of blood sugar, necessary drug therapy, herbal products, or simply change the diet and lifestyle. In most cases, the correct approach to nutrition, elimination of stressful situations and even physical activity provide an opportunity to reduce blood sugar to normal values.
If the rise in blood sugar caused by the development and progression of diabetes is a particularly important aspect is mandatory daily control of blood glucose level and strict adherence to diet, physical activity and prescribed treatment (Ferry Jr.). To achieve a stable level of blood sugar in diabetes the patient needs to observe the following rules: - stick to the diet and prescribed nutritional plan; - constantly monitor sugar levels portable picometres, with the obligatory account of the results; - perform regular case with the usual physical activity and a special course of physical exercises; - do not stop taking a prescribed pill and/or insulin; - with the appearance or worsening symptoms of high blood sugar she urgently needs to address for consultation to the doctor-endocrinologist.
