Business Leader
Introduction
A business leader can be described as an individual who influences others to willingly pursue organizational objectives or diligently perform any outlined duties and responsibilities. Business leaders are expected to exhibit unique values and attributes like skills, knowledge, character, ethics, values and beliefs that distinguish them from their subordinates. Such unique traits bring the leader role in an effective leader. A manager without the outlined attributes and one without the relevant skills of demystifying him or her as a leader may become effective as a result of experience. Donald Trump is an American icon in the business world. He is also a prominent television personality. He sits at the helm of the Trump Organization, a United States based real estate investment body as the Chairman. Donald Trump portrays a number of personality traits which have all contributed to his success. These include self-confidence, passion, thinking big, positivity, and emotional stability and, the drive to achieve motive.
As a business leader, Donald Trump believes that one ought to think big. Donald Trump has always pursued big ideas. This is illustrated in the huge investments and big deals in real estate that he has undertaken through the Trump Organization. In spite of the constant threat of plunging himself in debt, he has shown the risk-taking ability that is characteristic of many successful business leaders. Although the risk-taking has often landed him in financial turmoil, he has grown to emerge even stronger and more successful. This goes to show that Trump is a persistent and optimistic individual who views challenges as opportunities to triumph. This has contributed to his popularity as an ardent business personality.
Positive thinking
Donald Trump is a person who exhibits a lot of positive energy. He believes that this energy makes an individual to be self-driven. Self-driven people are passionate and enthusiastic about whatever they do. Such persons are rarely discouraged by the pessimism of other people but instead focus on the attainment of their set goals and targets. Good leaders should be exhibit passion and enthusiasm as driving force of their organizational objectives. According to Trump, successful business leaders should define and understand the objectives of the organization. This means that they must be passionate about what they are doing and where they are heading. A passionate leader can effectively transmit energy down to his subordinates thus giving them motivation.
Emotional balance
Donald Trump portrays emotional stability, which is one of the essential aspects of an effective business leader. In other words, this enables him to balance both positive and negative emotions in equal measure. A case in point that demonstrates his ability to manage his emotions is during the time when he was heavily indebted to his creditors. As he walked into the conference room, where the mood was very stressful, he was able to change the focus from looking at the problem to looking at the terrific future they had ahead. By doing so, he was able to make staff look forward to achieving goals instead of brooding over the failure (Trump & Zanker, 2007).
Self-drive and motivation
Trump is also widely renowned for his self-drive and ambition to achieve the best in the quality of buildings and real estate projects. He works for long durations of time and seldom takes on vacations. He manages several different duties and simultaneously keeps track of all the meetings on his busy schedule. Kehl (2012) quotes one of the golden rules of Trump’s success as “Never give up. No matter what the obstacle is, you have to get through it and achieve what you set out to do. Never even think about giving up”. This strongly indicates that Trump exhibits determination, commitment and perseverance.
Business leaders as negotiators
Good business leaders should be good negotiators. During the recession of 1989, Trump’s real estate investment was adversely affected. At the brink of bankruptcy, he managed to negotiate agreements with his creditors about how he would repay their money. The repayment work plan that he developed was so good that by 1994 he had cleared all his debt as he had pledged to the creditors. This portrayed his trait as a trustworthy and credit worthy individual. This is a very important component of successful business leadership.
Conclusion
In summary, effective leadership is a product of a blend of various traits and behavior of certain individuals. Leadership involves a continuous process of learning. Good leaders are as a result of a continuous process of thorough study, discipline, education, experience and training in order to become a good and effective leader in an organization. It is said that leaders ought to be wise and know just about everything about the specific entity they are leading. A good leader can command leadership as a result of the knowledge of the subject matter that is in question. Trump (2007) stated that he possesses a passionate interest in learning. Passion is extremely critical for the attainment prolonged success and in Trump’s case it has created lucrative business opportunities.
