This paper will critically and comprehensively provides a book review of the three musketeers. The paper will also discuss some of the weaknesses and strengths of the book and possibly where improvements are needed. The paper will also look at the major character of this book.
The three musketeers is an interesting story which entirely focus on the character by the D’ Artagnan. The story takes place in France in 1600s.The character mentioned had gone to Paris with a letter of introduction from his father to Monsieur de Treville who was the captain of the three musketeers in Paris. However, on his way, D’ Artagnan gets into trouble. During this time when this story is being written, France as a country has many judicial systems. There are two main enemies here and that is the king’s guard and the Cardinal guards. However, despite being enemies, the King did not despise the Cardinal.
The main character in the story is D’ Artagnan. This character is very interesting in the story. The way he relates with other people is just amazing. D’ Artagnan left his parent in the early twenties and then joined Musketeers in Paris. D’Artagnan later joined the kings company and manages to make friends with the three musketeers. D’ Artagnan later becomes helpful to a lady by the name Madam Bonacieux. He managed to rescue the lady from being humiliated by the Cardinal guards and also prevented the secret of the queen love from being leaked to the Duke of Buckingham. Milady wants to kill her. However, D’ Artagnan manages to trick her to a point that she becomes livid. At the end of the story, D’ Artagnan together with the three musketeers becomes the deputy of the musketeers and ever lived happily.
The historical moments brought forward in this book has a significant impact on the history of Paris. During the time when this story was being written, France as a country had many judicial systems. There were two main enemies here and that is the king’s guard and the Cardinal guards. However, despite being enemies, the King did not despise the Cardinal. This story is set in the beginning of the seventeenth century in France. During this time, King Louis XIII Cardinal Richelieu and the Duke were the real people in France. It was during this time that the fight between French Catholics and the Protestants Huguenots was taking place. Therefore, this story can be said to be of much significant especially in the history of France.
In order to bring the moment of fighting in France during the seventeenth century, the author uses the enmity that existed between King’s Guard and the Cardinal guards. Also the fighting which is noticed within the text shows the state of disharmony just like the one that was experienced in France in the seventeenth century between the French Catholics and the Protestants Huguenots. The author of the book brings this clearly especially where the Artagnan and the other three musketeers capture Milady after she had killed and then sentenced her to death.
The novel is very different from a history text book. First and foremost, the book is not organised logically beginning with the definition of terms as it is in history text books. These actually do not qualify it to be classified as a history text book. Secondly, the book has make use of various characters which are described continuously in the book up to the end of the text book. This is different from history text book because, in history text book, characters are not used. For instance, in this book there are major and minor characters. For example D’ Artagnan is the main character. On the other hand, in history text book, there are no major and minor characters. Finally, the book is written continuously and one paragraph helps in developing the subsequent paragraph which is very different in history.
Some of the strength of this book is that it is able to vividly bring to light the picture of French during the seventeenth century. The story is a reflection of the war between French Catholics and the Protestants Huguenots during the nineteenth century. Another strength of the story comes from its moral point of view. According to me, the Moral of the story is above average. For instance, after Milady had killed, she is captured by the three musketeers and then sentenced to death. This actually was very fair.
Despite having a plethora of strengths, it is worth noting to say that the story has some weaknesses. For instance, despite tireless efforts made by d’ Artagnan, to save Madame Bonacieux, it is sad that the lady dies before being married by D’ Artagnan. According to me, D’ Artagnan truly deserved to marry Madame Bonacieux. Another weakness comes from the behaviour that is being depicted by the three musketeers. Despite the fact that these musketeers are highly valued in France, it is prudent to say that they are too proud and often solve their problems with a duel.
The most interesting character in this story is D’ Artagnan. He is an interesting character in this story because despite leaving home only with eleven crowns, a horse and few words of advice from his father, he manages to become the deputy of the musketeers and also becomes very rich. D’ Artagnan also refuses to be lend money and insisted that despite coming with four crowns in his pocket, he could slaughter anyone who said that he was not rich. I love such behaviour of being a gentlemen and courageous. D’ Artagnan also depict the picture of a good servant because he was able to serve the king until death parts them.
In conclusion, it is prudent to note that this paper have critically and comprehensively provides a book review of the three mascateers. The paper focuses on the main character of the book who is D’ Artagnan. The paper has also discussed some of the weaknesses and strengths of the book and possibly where improvements are needed. The paper also looked at the major character of this book.
