As I write this letter, I am full of content because it is yet another beautiful morning and as usual I have woken up early to catch the magnificent site of the sun rising. This always marks the beginning of my every day. Every day I wake up, look at the sun, take a quick shower and get dressed and I am off to school. School is one of the places I enjoy socializing with people. Here one gets the great chance of meeting people from all walks. It is also here where one learns not only academic related things but also acts of kindness and how to empathise with people. it is also here that one gets to find friends. To me life would not be complete without friends and family. After my school hours i will head on to work at the ‘Grill’. This is the most famous and fun place that all students come after classes to have a drink or something to eat.
I got this job because I want to save up and go for a holiday with my three best friends. We have been planning it for weeks. At the end of the school year we will get a break and go away to party, swim in the ocean and make some new friends and memories. The current era is amazing, we have technology and this has brought computers and iphones to everybody. Communication is made easier and fun using social media like face book and twitter. The modern era is also a world of always planning for everything, to me nothing comes easy, a good grade, a nice job, a fun holiday all require one to work hard and plan in advance (Griffin, 1986).
Morality/Decision Making
Morality is basically what the society terms as acceptable and what is not acceptable is considered as immoral. At times a deviation from the norm makes one to be termed as immoral (Bentham, 1978). In my culture it is immoral to be to abandon your child because he is disabled. There is a structured moral conduct that sets certain expectations for individuals and for society at large. Decisions are made at a personal level however they put into considerations the feelings of other close people. This is more so family and friends, for instance one cannot make a decision to stop going to school and expect people to understand them, this will hurt family and friends and at times it is good to do things for them.
Happiness
Happiness is the greatest achievement man can ever get, because even with comforts and luxuries but without happiness man is dissatisfied. To me happiness is about being able to live out ones dreams and aspirations. It is also about the small little things that happen in our everyday life and ultimately create a butterfly effect on our lives. Happiness is also about having the least pain and maximum pleasure from a situation.
This goes hand in hand with many of the theories we have learnt of happiness like the hedonic theory that is always after minimizing pain, the desire theory that out source of happiness is accomplishment of our desires (Kahneman, 1999)..
Literature
Literature is the mirror of any society and it reflects the good, the bad and the evil. Literature speaks without shouting and is listened to in silence as one concentrates to read. To me short stories tell it as it is, this is because in every short story there is a moral to be learnt, a lesson about the society. Short stories are direct to the point and they always leave one asking themselves so many questions about the society.
Short stories should be preserved as they give short accounts about the everyday life of people in the current society and the problems they face, but mostly they show the diversity in people. they are short and straight forward and do not hide behind rhymes and hidden meanings like poems.
Art and Architecture
The art of designing clothes should be preserved. This is because there is always the tendency to bring back what was there before to the current style. The new always has some influence from what preceded it (Foster, 1989). Dressing is a culture that is embedded in the current era and all the work and finances put into it should not be allowed to be forgotten. The art of making something different to be worn for different occasions is an art that brings even differences in the occasion themselves.
The fashion and design industry is slowly changing from expecting very skinny girls to incorporating bigger girls and even those with curves. This means that the girls in the real world can feel beautiful because they can find clothes that fit them and they feel as beautiful as the models do.
Music
The most influential music is the rap music; this is because it has brought forth most talent. It is music based on not just rhyming words but spreading a message to the people. rap was started during the civil war times and it worked to spread the message against racism, this marked a great change in the society and this should not be forgotten at all. It was the beginning of something new that is currently flourishing.
Jazz music is also lovely as it speaks to the soul. This is because in Jazz music there at times no need to have a singer but the reef with the instruments speaks many words without saying them. It is a type of music for all to listen and should be preserved for the future people to get a feel of it as well.
Film
The film red tails is a true life story. It is captivating both as a source of lessons to be learnt and for entertainment purposes. This is because it was a film about the life of soldiers back in the Second World War. Young men who had volunteered to go and fight for their country at any cost. The moral of the movie is that we should make no mistake, there is a war in the world and the person who one is with, in the battle field becomes your brother and your responsibility regardless of their race (Bernstein, 2000). He has your back as much you have his. We should always live as brothers and look out for each other at all time.
Pop culture
Pop culture is a culture that comes from the adaptation to different situation in life by people (Fedora, 2009). At the moment pop culture has really accepted dancing as a profession; one can dance and make a living from becoming a dancer. The night life is a pop culture adopted by people living in the cities. They go out at night to meet with friends and have a few drinks and dance sometimes till late into the night.
Pop culture has led to the acceptance of so many upcoming issues like gay marriages and transexuality. This has led to a decrease in the level of discrimination in the society. The future society is also expected to follow suit.
Summary
There are so many things that this life has that people in the future will miss out on, however the little that will be captured will be of importance. This is because they will be standing on the foundation of what the current people are doing. The victories are not ours alone but will be theirs too.
