In order to carry out an analysis of my skill in time management, I have prepared a diary for my daily activities in the first week of March 2013. My day shift starts at 8:00 a.m. everyday whereas my night shifts begin at 8:00 a.m. This will provide a detailed expression of the activities I have done and the amount of time spent doing them. I tabulated my activities to provide a better understanding.
Schedule analysis
In order to utilize the time available during each shift, I need to be aware of all the duties I am required to carry out during the shift. My schedule ensures I handle both administrative and patient responsibilities through the establishment of a balance between the two (Basavanthappa, 2003). This will enable me know how to balance and ensure all are accomplished. The schedule for my day shift activities is effective as it provides enough time for interaction with patients in order to cater for their needs. The patient’s welfare and ensuring he/she recuperates in a caring environment with the required medication is the nurse’s main concern (Ellis & Hartley, 2004).
My night shifts have more free time which I should make use of. I should make changes to increase the amount of time I spend in contact with the patients. This will ensure I cater better for their individual needs. Care and consolation especially in the night is crucial in the recovery process. I should also set aside enough time to handle the administrative and personal records to ensure they are updated. Effective nursing requires a balance of all responsibilities.
