Tools of the Mind
Tools of the mind are techniques adopted by teachers to help them reinforce understanding power to the learners. The main goals of mind tools are to develop the cognitive process of children in understanding literature among other subjects that require technicalities. These tools have involved the development of very creative approaches and concepts that teachers need to use to equip the required knowledge to learners. It has taken a lot of concern among the researchers. The aim of this paper is to show various tools of the mind and their use in modern mode of learning. It also discusses its relevance and importance in the current system of education.
Since learners do not need the wide volume of theory to understand the knowledge, but they just require an overview of the main concept. This can be said to be giving the learners only the desired knowledge other than feeding unimportant materials to the learners. The tools of the mind have proved useful in equipping knowledge to learners through the way they have provided solutions to this problem; the need for a mechanism to supervise child improvement in understanding and giving appropriate feedback to the teachers with ease, replacing experts in the field with equally or more knowledgeable trainers. Providing a right mix of equipment that matches the class work and lectures.
Developing the primary learners’ skills to improve the understanding power. Among other various functions. Again the creative techniques been applied should be executive and well planned. It means that they need to be official and be presented in a manner that it does not discriminate the learners. Again it is important that the tools been used are relevant to the topic of study and are easily adaptable. However, the tools of the mind and executive are just a mere development in the aid of acquiring the concepts of learning. According to Vygotsky’s theory of learning and development, the mode of learning has just evolved from culture and transformed over years.
The concept was acquired from experienced people in the society. It, therefore, proved difficult to equip acquired knowledge experience to young members of the community. This led to the adoption of the new tools of the mind which have transformed into various stages according to Vygotsky's. He based his study on cultural instruments, and he was able to recognize the most useful tools appropriate for learning. However, development of these tools to current executive tools of the mind is vast and has therefore been simplified in phases. The first stage the learner is required to relate the concept to its real action. This is how a learner would act in real life situation if he is to practice the study, the second stage was top familiarized with external mediators which entailed the surrounding environment.
The children developed the sense to the tangible objects pictures of the objects and the relation to the study. Use of monolog or what can be termed as personal speech. Universal knowledge said that a child’s local language aids in verbal thinking and hence been a building block in developing cognitive power. The other stage related with the joint activity of the teamwork activities or the activities done together. This stage linked the behavior of children in correlation to other people behavior. The other phase dealt with developing of plays and dramatically presentation in relation to the study. These phases were more advanced but could not improve the cognitive power efficiently. The need to develop the cognitive power led to the tools of mind enhancement era.
The rise of innovative tools of the mind can be interlinked with the cultural or traditional norms of getting the cognitive power as discussed above. The use of drama and plays has integrated to perform planning. The learners, therefore, develop this cognitive power through developing themes of study and initiating their imaginary action. The props used to establish these imaginary actions. The other tool is the use of scarf folded writing. The learner develops the concept by the repetitive reading of a particular paragraph. This affects learners understanding power through the consecutive practice of the and also helps them develop mastery formulae, familiarizing with letters and words spelling and pronunciation to some essays through the use of earlier discussed techniques. This forms the basis of developing cognitive power, and it is a very effective tool of the mind been used to develop learners understanding.
The adoption of Vygotsky strategies in modern classes has helped in the development of the current academic programs and has had a lot of benefits to the learner. Implementation of these tools of the mind is, therefore, effective in developing learner’s cognitive power. Trainers who train their learners with these tools have realized a lot of advantages especially in developing their power of understanding. The tools have also helped solve the problem of low teacher to learner’s ratio; it has also helped in quickness in adopting the concept through relating it to modern society activities.
Therefore, implement tools of learning in the current society have helped very much in developing learners cognitive power.it has also assisted in effecting training where teachers use a simple concept and apply the effective tool of learning in simplifying a large volume of topic.it has resulted in reducing the small teacher-learner ratio among others. I appreciate the adoption of instruments of the mind. They are effective in developing academic programs and have been associated with positive performance and proper cognitive development.
