Recruitment can be defined as the process of finding and hiring new candidates who are best qualified for a job in a timely and cost-effective way. The recruitment process entails analyzing the requirements of the job opening, advertising the post to the public, short listing and screening applicants, selecting applicants, hiring and training staff. For many organizations, recruitment is a core factor in developing and maintaining an effective team (Elearn, 2008).
Trader Joe’s should ensure that every step in recruitment is strictly followed. Every step is important in giving you the best opportunity of attracting the best candidate with the ability and potential. While Trader Joe’s may not be able to change the recruitment process, it may have control over what it contributes to it. The three types of recruitment are open recruitment, external recruitment and applicant initiated recruitment.
Open recruitment is a method of recruitment that is open to anyone including all external applicants as well as current employees of a business who are eligible to apply. Open recruitment is too expensive and requires a lot of resources.
Applicant initiated is a method of recruitment whereby the applicant approaches the business with the main aim of securing employment. This type of recruitment is efficient and low-cost. However, it poses a big challenge to both the applicant and the business as there may be no jobs at the time the applicant is applying for the job or by the time there is a vacancy, the applicant may have found a new job.
External recruitment is a method of recruitment that performs an employee candidate search by use of external recruitment tools such as online advertisements, publications and through announcements. This technique of recruitment is mostly used when the open position is not able to be filled by the current employees due to the level of skills required. External recruitment is far better than open recruitment and applicant initiate recruitment (Aswathappa, 2005).
