- What training were you able to complete during the last 30 hours of training?
Firstly, I gave a careful reading to all the policies of the departments before starting any task and made sure I was careful in doing all the work, following the instructions and going by the rules.
After being instructed on how to make a financial report, I became acquainted with and knowledgeable of the main classification of the expenses; basically there are direct and indirect costs. The direct costs are personal, equipment, travel, and miscellaneous cost. The indirect costs would be, for example, electricity, rent of the building, etc.
Then there was training on how to carry out the analysis of the various types of projects; there are two namely NPRP which is for 3 years, and EUROP for 1 year and I learned thoroughly about both.
I became proficient on how to extract the information from the Oracle system and felt myself master its usage.
There was plenty of training and practice on how to make a template sheet for each project and how it can be shared among other accountants, which I grasped quickly.
There, I also learned about how to check the last date of each project and updated it in the excel sheet.
Lastly, there was the most important task about how to manage the budget set from QNRF, if it were in QRNF website, then there were different budgets for different projects and it needed to be assured that the total cost should be within the budget.
Trouble Shooting Skills
-Did you face any problems or difficulties? If so, how did you solve them?
Did you receive any compliments and/or criticisms during the last 30 hours? If so, what were they?
I had to ask them repeatedly to help them do their tasks because they had project deadlines, and they were required to finish their work on time.
New Skills Learning
-Did you learn any new skills? Explain
A new skill I learned was related to the extraction of the expenses from the oracle system and find the total in QAR and USD for each individually.
I was instructed about how to manage the budget, and what way to control the situation if there were an excess fund.
There was an emphasis on correction and deduction of any mistake by comparing the total cost with the financial report and the excel sheet, which is a useful skill.
I mastered the method of changing the budget if the collaborators were asking for more funds because from the total amount; they are allowed to only 5%.
Also, I learned the procedure of checking the invoices sent from the collaborators with the total cost extracted from the system and then how to deduct any mistake.
Work Environment Assessment
-What were some of the advantages and disadvantages you found in the work environment during these 40 hours?
-What contributions did you make to the organization?
I made several contributions to the workplace. I almost helped all the workers in their job by taking care of different tasks as they were all busy doing various other projects and burdened with deadlines. Therefore, I decided to give them a helping hand. I also learned to be efficient, and I contributed to improving my work speed and working well under the time restraint and pressure. We were all checking the end date in the system and updating the excel sheet as well as the updating of the shared file in the summary template. Meanwhile, I was the helping hand in scanning all the invoices sent from the collaborators. These are the supported documents for the auditors to check on and I used to check the total cost of the supported document for the auditors to check. I also checked the total cost of supported document foe each and every category such as personal, equipment, travel and the miscellaneous costs. I assisted the financial reporting sub-section by documenting and organizing the research projects and files whenever I would be done with my tasks.
Summary of Learning and Benefits Achieved
-Overall, what did you learn during these 40 hours? And how are you benefiting from these 40 hours of training?
There was a lot that I learned from the forty hours of work experience, and I do know that professionally, in the future, I shall benefit a lot from this training. I have gathered more knowledge of how to use the Oracle system, and I use it more efficiently than ever. I have done many tasks that were assigned to me using oracle, and I was very successful in completing them. I got acquainted with professional work rather than plain office work as I learned how to prepare the financial report and extracted the direct and indirect costs and remove the revenue, which is an elaborate task that requires much diligence and hard work. The revenue collection is done by another method in a different section which is the unearned revenue that is not used from the budget and will be returned to receivable account to QNRF. I learned how to give the cost in QTR and USD. I also learned how to manage the budget; the indirect cost should be equal to 80% and the direct cost 20%. It was a great opportunity to work in this subsection and prove my skills and discover my abilities.
