Transformative innovation refers to the creation of changes in the aspects of technology and other areas that seek to bring enhancement to holistic economic systems (DEFRA, 2009). There are various distinctions between transformative innovations (TI) and other forms. The most prominent one is that TI encompasses process and practice changes that have the intention of improving system capacities (DEFRA, 2009). Innovation has been a significant influence on sustainability, but TI carries the concept to another level. The difference arises in that while other forms of innovation look at the end product, TI deals with each step of production and further influences the consumption patterns. Therefore, TI involves the association of societal groups rather that variables that are within those scopes alone. For example, TI covers the aspects of organizational policy and operations, the economic environment, infrastructure, consumer behavior, and production capacities (DEFRA, 2009). TI enables an individual to focus on the relationship between all those factors to determine the best strategies for product and service development.
Various issues also affect the capability and efficiency of individuals to develop transformative innovation in their systems. Policies that regulate market activities are one of the issues that influence the performance of enterprises. The best approach to eliminate any relevant issues is to increase pressure on existing regimes using financial instruments and stimulating radical changes in various business niches. However, no one generic way can enable the enterprises to achieve these objectives due to the variations that exist throughout different economies. Policy mechanisms that seek to enhance the liberalization of markets can serve a major purpose to minimize the impacts of those changes.
The creation of transition platforms is one of the approaches that can enable the society to achieve transformative innovation. Those entities constitute a network of experts that discuss issues beyond policy into the creation of solutions that solve real-world problems (DEFRA, 2009). The essential functions of transformative innovation should focus on building pathways for strategy, enhancing the markets, increasing the effectiveness of strategic governance, and providing an approach for evaluating progress in the businesses. The primary objective of transformative innovation is to produce changes in the systems such that the new alignments present better outcomes after each period. Unlike other forms of change, TI looks to make improvements to the business systems in a holistic manner through strategic implementations and organizational capacity development.

The organization enables the workers to create small startups within the company as a way of nurturing their entrepreneurial skills.
Buekens (2014) proposes improvements on employee engagement as an approach to increasing the trend of intrapreneurship in an organization. The primary proposal should come as a way of enhancing the working conditions for the employees to practice passionately in the workplace. Intrapreneurship can provide an overview of the volatile consumer behavior regarding various products and services in the business. Intrapreneurs have the skills to develop strategic approaches to supply chain management that can open the way for more efficient marketing methods. For example, when an individual in the company creates a new product, they have an understanding of the target customer and the way of delivering to that client. Such information is valuable in predicting consumer behavior and using it to enhance marketing activities.
