A number of factors are responsible for potentially causing the increase rate of suicidal risk in our patients. This ranges from the biological, psychosocial to cultural causes.
Biological causes can be caused by a state of a mental disorder linked with biological changes. The disorder is known to cause depressions among patients. It accounts for the highest probability of suicidal behaviors amongst individuals at a variety of ages. People with the mental disorder are more vulnerable to suicidal risks than those with mental illness. The disorder is known to be heritable along the family line where it could have been passed from the parents to the child. It normally impairs the brain functioning and a number of receptor cells within the nerve system.
The risk could have also been attributed to the effects of acute and chronic stress. This is normal as a result of the intense depression experienced by the patient. Those suffering from depression are known to be varied in terms of the risk of suicides. It might begin as a mild stress to a severe one and eventually grows in a permanent phase where one is permanently traumatized because of a happening or a particular situation. Being abandoned by a close family member, for instance, the divorce partners are usually affected the most from this particular factor. It is also highly common for those individuals who lost someone close and cannot easily let go of the feelings. One common effect of traumatic stress and depression is the mental disorder as it impairs the functionality of brain cells (Juhnke et al, 2010).
Substance and alcohol abuse is also another factor that can lead to suicidal risks. However, this is recorded to be common among the youths who use alcohol and substances like bhang and cocaine. It is known to cause and impair the brain cells causing a mental disorder thus one is not able to critically make rational decisions pertaining a specific course. Another important psychological cause of suicide is aggression. This is the sudden temperamental change in an individual triggered by some emotional factors. Mr. Myron, for instance, was a tempered person who could easily get agitated especially when making conversations with his family. He could get angry at the way other people make perceptions of him including his wife. This caused a lot of tensions within their home. The aggressive act is known to be the most cause of a suicidal act in a number of individuals at various ages. This is because the person can easily commit any kind of harm when in this kind of situation without keenly analyzing the situation. Alcohol and substance abuse are also known to be major causes of aggressions.
If not attended to, Becca is most likely to suffer from posttraumatic depression and chronic stress and most of all blame herself for what happened to the father. This in the long term can lead to a permanent state of depression if not approached with care. She should be handled by an expert in psychiatric personnel to intervene and assist her through the whole process. Mostly, depressions, when countered at the initial stages, are easily dealt with before proceeding to the severe stages.
