Managers should not ignore their set innovation strategic trends and consider product features which are addressing only consumer trends or waiting for their competitors to lead in the market. He wants to teach managers the effects of new trends in the market and how they are affecting their customers. He is also trying to advise them on how to make market research and product development. The core point is that managers should not ignore technological trends which have poured in the market and have changed consumer view of their products.
The author’s message is primarily for the managers of the business organisations or companies. He has found that trends are playing a big role in the market by changing the aspirations of consumers towards some products. He considers digital revolution as the main cause of changes of consumers’ behaviour because they value offerings which provide instant satisfaction and are multipurpose. Managers should lower the price of products to enable them sell high volumes such a way that it will not low the image of the products to customers. He is also telling them to advertise their products and try to brand them to attract attention of customers. He is advising them to produce environmental friendly products because customers have given it big priority. He has used Nike Company which teamed up with Apple and launched Nike+ a digital sport kits containing sensor connected to the shoe and wireless that connect it to your iPod. He explains how the sensor transmits information to your iPod while you are jogging around. These kits give you a chance to specify your goals and check your performance. You are also linked to social networks such as Face book and Twitter giving you a chance to get other people with the same interest. This has enabled these two companies to sell high volumes of shoes all over the world. Therefore companies can combine and come up with a new product which suits many customers leaving behind their traditional ones. The other example he has used is Poppy handbags produced by Coach Company after economic crisis in the world. It increased its sales volume after consistent design, advertising and changing storage layout of the product to attract customers. The company also lowered the prices of poppy line after carrying a market research making it to sell high volume of bags. The other example the author used is Tesco Company which introduced Greener Living Program which involve consumers directly in production of environment friendly goods. This was done after it realised customers concerned about the environment. Customers can hire land to raise chicken from this company, reusing bags, recycling cans and printer cartilages.
The author has concluded that millions of people have turned to maintain the environment and therefore, companies should produce goods which are not going to interfere with the environment. This has been observed in many supermarkets where people are carrying reusable shopping bags with them. The author is also advising firms to identify trends that have big impact in the market, explore the market to get direct responses from customers themselves, and try to discover the fact about undesired outcomes of available trends. After market research, firms to compare the results and do the necessary before customers change and come up with plan strategies to counteract them. Managers should respond to any trend in the market by identifying it before it affects customers.
Companies are supposed to be associated with media where these trends are commonly found. This can also be done through market research and changing the brand of the products to suit the situation of consumers. They should not give competitors an opportunity to explore the markets without their notices because it might cause a big harm to old customers. The author has given top secrets for success of any company which is aspiring to increase its sales volume. The examples he has given are well explained and they give direct procedures to come up with good ideas for new products.
