What does the author of the article means with the title, “True Likenesses?” How were likenesses accurate or inaccurate? Use examples from the text
What the author wants to imply in the title “True Likeness” is the similarities of both North and the South when it comes to political awareness about slavery. Although the North side of America is adamant about idea of slavery, the society itself draws racial relationship and segregation of classes. True likenesses, implies that the divided opinion regarding slavery does not overshadow the fact that the entire country’s perception about African Americans is the same particularly the familiar claim of President Johnson and Lincoln towards slavery. The author who is also a historian inaccurately presented the similarities of likenesses because despite the society’s notion of America that they knew and loved, reporters and historians are often biased about the facts that would hurt their country’s reputation from the rest of the world. For example, the rise of the Union League in 1867 gave the black the voting power in the league, but it was not stipulated that not all the white Southerners appreciate the idea.

This case study of likenesses relate to today’s views of Islam and Muslim religion in such a way that Muslim are very much attached to their Islamic faith. They view Islam as a source of social direction and political belief. The obvious similarities of Muslims with the case study about African-Americans are the socio-political effect of ethno-racial hierarchies and the notion of liberty. As the African-American slaves strive to gain freedom from slavery, the Muslims are similarly battling the same cause for liberation. Kuwait, Iraq and other Muslim countries have experienced tyranny of the elite and powerful through the image of their leaders for decades. It is the same battle that African-Americans went through to get free from the hands of their white masters in the name of freedom.
