Two Different Dogs With Unique Characters Essay Sample

One of my friends, Frank, has two dogs that I love very much. One dog`s name is Tom. This is a male dog, who appeared in my friend`s family fourteen years ago. Leila is a female dog, who is actually Tom`s daughter. Considering that Tom and Leila are the dogs of one owner, I'm going to compare and contrast them in this paper.
Both dogs have a lot of similarities and differences that make them unique. To begin with, it is necessary to mention their major similarities. The main thing that makes Tom and Leila similar is their breed. Or, frankly, the lack of it. Both dogs were picked up from the street to the Frank`s family. Tom and Leila love their master very much. Sometimes it even ends with flashes of jealousy, since they both do not want to share their beloved Frank with someone else. Fortunately, Frank brings up both dogs since they were puppies. Thus, he has been able to make them freedom-loving and obedient at the same time. They go for a walk without a leash, and there is no danger that they will run away, as they listen to Frank implicitly and perfectly. Another common thing in these two dogs is their resemblance. Despite the fact that Tom and Leila both are mongrels, they might have had a completely different appearance. Nevertheless, they have a very similar appearance, especially the shape of their eyes and the shape of the muzzle. Many people who see Tom and Leila together, ask, whether they are a brother and sister. There is another funny fact which proves their high resemblance. Although Tom and Leila are now in the adult age and have a ten-year age difference, many people still occasionally ask are they the German Shepherd puppies. When Frank hears this question again and again, he chuckles because he knows his dogs` true origin.
Similarities are a good thing, but these are differences that make both Frank`s dos unique. First of all, Tom is a male dog and Leila is a female dog. These gender differences cause a certain effect on their characters. On the walk Tom tends to run away from owner, while Leila always resides near Frank. Moreover, Leila does not like active running and games, she would better lay somewhere in the grass. Needless to say, these dogs have a great difference in age. Leila was born when Tom was ten years old. However, despite this, Leila tends to dominate and dictate the rules in their relationship. The responsiveness of the both dogs is also different. Leila always comes when her owner calls her, even if she is upset or sleeps. At the same time, Tom can ignore Frank forever if he (Tom) is sleeping or when Frank calls him just like that, without offering delicious food instead. A similar situation is with the dogs` sociability. Leila loves to “communicate” with other dogs in the street, but her jealousy sometimes makes her fight with those dogs that try to pretend to Frank`s attention. Tom, on the contrary, likes to run alone, but if other dogs come to Frank, he does not mind. One of the main differences of the both dogs is about food. Leila is a bright prototype of a food vacuum cleaner: she loves eating, she eats everything and never gives up additional servings. On the contrary, Tom is a very difficult dog in nutrition issues. His food should always be tasty. Moreover, if Tom smelled that Frank is eating something other than he (Tom) was offered to eat, Tom may even refuse to eat at all. Sometimes Tom might not eat for one or even two days. Such different attitude of both dogs to the food effects on their weight. Leila has a bit of excess fat, and Tom always stays in his perfect fit and smart appearance.
In the end it is necessary to say that Tom and Leila both are unique dogs, which though do not have breed. Both dogs love their owner, Frank, and do not want to share him with someone else because he picked them up from the street and shares his home with them. Frank walks with the dogs without a leash because they both are obedient and like freedom. Tom and Leila even look similar, and some people mistakenly think that they are the German Shepherd puppies. Due to gender differences, Tom and Leila have different characters and attitudes in life. Leila does not like active games, so she always sits or lays next to Frank. She likes to dominate in relationships with other dogs, and at the same time she implicitly revokes when Frank calls it. On the contrary, Tom likes to run away from Frank, and even sometimes ignores his owner. In the food issues Leila is not capricious because she loves food, while Tom might refuse to eat only because of the food`s taste, though being hungry. Both dogs are nice, but with different characters, and that makes them special and unique pets.
