For very many years Bermuda has functioned under the British colony. Its politics revolve around Britain and the crown something that is evident to this day because that has not changed at all because it is still part and parcel of the British Empire. Aside from the political situation that attests to the fact that the British influence is felt in this small island, its cultural traditions, news and so much of its practices have borrowed a lot from Britain.
Some of its customs which are greatly linked to Britain include their love for cricket, driving on the left to having Queen Elizabeth on their bank notes. Aside from this, their flag is made up of the British Red Ensign together with the Bermuda Coat of Arms. And this is evident that to this day, the Union Flag has been of great influence in Bermuda. Also, most of their cultural traditions are British oriented and many of the wealthiest in the island are British Expatriates. They largely determine how the island operates.
I have come to learn a lot about this island and it’s kind of affiliations with Britain and America. There before I had held assumptions about it which of course have changed over time. For instance, I had thought that it was more inclined to America because of its proximity to it but I was wrong because now I know of its inclination to Britain and how it all started. Now I am also aware that the food the Bermudans eat is strongly influenced by American food because much of it is imported from America even though its traditional cuisine is a mixture of American and British influences.
