Understanding of Miracles
Introduction
A miracle is defined as an event that is not explicable by the scientific or natural laws. The event can be associated with the supernatural being God or gods of a certain society, a saint, magic, miracle worker, or a religious front-runner. A miracle is utilized to depict the beneficial happening, which is statistically improbable, but do not contradict the rules of nature, like enduring a natural disaster or a simple incident, with no concern of its possibility such as birth.
Existence of God
The existence of God is a major issue to the Catholics and they relate him to the occurrence of miracles. The proof of God being real is evident as shown by the theologians, philosophers, and some Christian scientists. If God does not exist in the world, some phenomenon cannot be taking place. An example is when a sick person receives prayers, and he or she is healed, it shows God heard the prayers and responded to the issue. If there was no God, even the prayers could be useless, and people could always need scientific solutions to their problems such as medical doctors to treat diseases. The existence of God is further proven, because in the Bible, when people sinned, God requested Noah to build an ark and save his family since a terrible rain was coming. Those who did not believe in the word of God perished after being washed away by the floods. This is enough evidence that God exists, and he is the father of miracles since he performed a miracle by bringing a lot of rain and floods that people could not foresee. Some people such as scientists object the existence of God and argue that all the occurrences that take place around the world can be described scientifically. An example is that some people may say healing of a sick person is because of the scientific medicines that were taken. Another example is that when an individual survives a disaster, it may be assumed that the challenge was not enough to overcome him or her. As a conclusion, it is clear that God exists since there is some phenomenon that the scientists are not able to prove scientifically such as the nature of human mind and differences.
Proof and Objection of Miracles
In the Christianity and Catholic aspect, miracles are associated with God and Jesus, who is his son. Catholics assume that miracles are from the power of God, but this is in contrast to the scientists who believe that there is no existence of God since it cannot be proven scientifically. An example of a miracle in agreement with the nature of Christians and Catholics is the survival of a person who is diagnosed with a terminal disease, the escape from a given situation that was life-threatening, or beating the expected odds of nature. In addition, some coincidences may be assumed by the Christian community as a miracle such as when you walk hoping to meet someone, and it happens you coincidentally meet along the way with no prior notice.
Miracles cannot be explained using the nature laws. The criteria that are used to classify an event as a miracle or a scientific occurrence may differ. In the Christianity and Muslim context, they use holy books such as the Bible and Quran to determine a miracle. When something occurs, the Christians compare it to the happenings of the Bible and accept or doubt the fact that it is a miracle. For the people who are not in Christianity or Muslim denomination, they may have a different meaning of a miracle. When an occurrence takes place, the individuals may try to prove it scientifically, and when it is not possible, they do not take it as a miracle from God, but they assume it is luck. Luck may be considered as an example of a miracle only that it is not based towards God, yet he is the controller of all lucks, miracles, and scientific phenomenon.
Scientists have taken part in the proof of miracles. Littlewood, who is a British mathematician, suggests that according to statistics, people should expect miracles to happen in the rate that is one every month. According to the mathematicians, it is sure that miracles are not bound to happen, but it is likely that at least one will occur in the lives of human per month. The involvement of scientists in the definition of miracles makes them disapprove that God does not exists and agree that not all things can be scientifically approved.
According to the Aristotelian view, God does not include all the direct intervention on the natural world events. In this view, there is some truth that God exist, and miracles are real, but not all the events can be rated to be miracles. It is upon people to understand the actual meaning of miracles and try to relate it to their living norms and beliefs such as the way of the Bible by the Christians.
In the Epistemic theory of miracles, they are just law-like events and people are ignorant of their causes. Individuals are advised that they should not treat the miracles as if they do not have a cause when they take place, but they should use them to combat the ignorance that the people had. Some people are ignorant that miracles are not real, and when something that they cannot explain happens to them, they should not assume, but should consider it a miracle.
Strongest Form to Believe and Rebut to the Objection
Different theories concerning God and miracles exist. Some people believe in their existence, while others argue against it. God and miracles exists because if God was not inexistence, there could be no earth. Some scientists may argue that earth was because of light and energy explosion. However, this may be not true because they do not state the origin of the light and energy. It is clear that God created the earth because according to the Bible he is the creator of energy and light; hence, it proves his existence. The aspect of miracles existing is seen in the fact that God helped Moses to create a passage in the lake for his people to pass. There is no scientific way of creating a road through a sea without building walls.
Discussion
The existence of God is proven by many scriptures of the Bible that is used by the Christians. Catholics believe that God exists, and they trust in his power since they pray to him when in challenges and trust he delivers them and ensures their safety and a better life. When the Catholics pray to God for issues like healings and deliverance from troubles, they believe that they will be answered and at times, the healing takes place. It is hard to explain the occurrence of the healing process even though individuals take drugs because some people may take medication but they do not heal while others recover without taking the meds. From the facts listed, it is clear that miracles happen in our daily lives. The only issue is that some of the people assume the events not to be miracles and think that they are just normal things. However, this is not true because the actions cannot be scientifically justified; hence, they are miracles and are performed by God. The believers and nonbelievers receive the miracles as a sign of making them understand the nature and existence of God and the powers he has, to do things that man cannot imagine.
