In a paper with the title “The Culture of Medicine and Racial, Ethnic, and Class Disparities in Healthcare” by Good, Good, and Becker on page 594, researchers noted the disparities in healthcare. One of the most surprising things is that there are many kinds of disparities in the healthcare, when patients actually require more care without discrimination. Another thing that surprised me was that the healthcare workers have to perform their work as immediately as possible, especially in the emergency department, and in doing this thing, they often have to ignore the interaction with patients. Moreover, people often wish to get “social interventions” but they forget to provide such interventions. Everyone needs some help from the other and sometimes people need help from others without helping them, and in case of healthcare, it happens often (Smedley, Stith, & Nelson, 2002).
One of the limitations of the paper was that the study was conducted in some areas of the country, i.e. it was not performed on a large scale, and most of the outcomes were based only on interviews from healthcare experts. Researchers have also noted that they were not able to reach an obvious conclusion having a clear set of outcomes. Moreover, researchers have worked more on mental health issues and not provided special attention to the problems faced by patients in the emergency department.
For nursing practice, we can implicate that ethnicity and race of healthcare experts have to be checked and their affect on the provision of care to racial and ethnic minorities, poor people, and new immigrants have to be properly maintained. Moreover, new healthcare programs and interventions have to be identified, so that more successful nursing programs would be identified in the delivery of healthcare without any kind of disparities.
