In both countries the United States and Canada they have programs called Medicare that are funded by the public. In the United States there are other programs that are also publicly funded unlike in Canada. Some of these programs are the states child’s health insurance which is for the children of the families who have low income. There is also another one which is veteran’s hospital administration which gives the military veterans’ with the health benefits through a network of the government hospitals.
In Canada they have a single payer which is publicly funded system but the United States has the multi payer which is a heavily private system. The research has shown that the single payer can deliver a better health out come and also in the distribution of health resources well than the multi payer system (Robert & Stirrup, 2014). In United States more money is spend on the health care than in Canada.
The two countries cultures seem to be the same because it can be possible to adopt the Canadian system in the United States. In Canada the Universal access to the healthcare is provided to the citizens but in the U.S more non-elderly are not insured. It was found that the life expectancy is higher and the infant mortality rate is lower in Canada than in the United States. This survey shows that the life expectancy in Canada is 80.34 years while in the United States is 78.6 years for their residents (Robert & Stirrup, 2014).
Health care is more equitable in Canada because is publicly funded unlike in the Unites States where there is inequality. In the United States people get benefits depending on where they work, live, their age and also how much they have to spend on the health insurance which is not the case in Canada. When it comes to the drug prescription coverage Canada is poor. There is lack of drug in Canada. The universal drug benefit is not there but there are two provinces with mandatory drug insurance. It can be given by an employer or it can be bought from the public plan.
