Staying and watching my father undertake engineering work was fun and cheering. I could clearly figure out that there was uniqueness in his work and certainly, I loved what he did. Engineering was the first thing I was exposed to as a young man and as some would say, I grew up in it. My childhood exposure to the engineering career made me develop interest of joining the University of Michigan to pursue my academic and career goals. The cultural background of my family has also motivated me into pursuing a course in engineering at the University of Michigan. I have extensive exposure of the engineering work as have grown up experiencing the potential and opportunities in the engineering career. My father, a professional electrical engineer, always took me around as he did his engineering activities. I always saw him assemble electrical systems, but never understood what he was doing. However, I could see that he enjoyed his electrical work. Following this experience, I developed interest in my father’s profession and ever dreamt of becoming a successful engineer than him. I essentially felt that I had a duty of taking after my father’s work when he age and advance it to high levels.
I remember constantly asking my father naively why he opted for electrical engineering over other careers. His prominent answer was that he enjoyed the strategic experience offered by a career in engineering. Furthermore, he maintained that since his dream included being a great engineer, he found self-satisfaction in pursuing and working in the field of engineering. He nastily argued he would never do something that he did not like. At a tender age, he allowed me to handle some of the equipment he used in his work. I never understood why he gave me a lot of time to work with him. In some cases, my father taught me engineering concepts related to some common daily production procedures. Although I hardly understood most concepts that he discussed, I started developing interest of knowing more in the discipline of the engineering, which I viewed as a “magical subject.” I became more curious of knowing more in this subject each day, as a developed my knowledge and experience in engineering activities. Furthermore, I developed witnessing numerous and unique opportunities in the engineering field. With time, I became convinced that venturing the world of electrical products would be a strategic undertaking. I once a Cell phone to see what was inside. This was prompted by my desire of establishing what interested my father in the Cell phone. This defined my urge to study electrical engineering as got convinced that I had the potential of building an enjoyable career in this field.
Accessibility of the financial support also motivated me into study engineering. Being an electrical engineer, I was confident that my father had the potential of supporting me to pursue any course of my dream. My father always said that he would support me financially in any career that I wanted to pursue. I am an opportunist who hardly let golden moments slip off his hands, thus I had to utilize this one life chance by selecting a program through which I could navigate to my dream world. In this respect, I selected a course in engineering knowing that I had the full financial support of studying it at University of Michigan. Furthermore, my father commanded high respect in the society, being identified as a great engineer. Most people felt that he was among the top achievers and most educated in the community. The social respect that my father received in the society encouraged me to study engineering to have a reputable name like that of my father.
The geographical location of the University of Michigan in relation to our home also motivated me to join this particular institution. The University is located in a secure and strategic place that is convenient for me. The University of Michigan’s high academic rating made me choose it over the other universities. I found pride in learning in one of the most reputable International Universities.
Concisely, I chose engineering at Michigan university due to the background I enjoyed especially parental orientation. I loved electrical because my father exposed me to them. My curiosity made me dissemble a Cell phone to see what was in it and reassemble it, which was a good idea. You do not see children playing around with electrical devices frequently, but I guess I was an isolated case. I grew with electricity, spent time with an engineer, and learnt to love engineering.
