QUESTION 1
The author of the article quotes and supports Glib’s view on dyslexia that it being treated as a gift is worst of all patronizing and at its best still unhelpful .my personal opinion is that dyslexia should be treated as a gift and I disagree with the author and will prove the point in the following essay.
Dyslexia is an advantage to the people having it more specifically in the scientific and artistic areas. Research shows that people with dyslexia have unique abilities of perception in that their peripheral view is sharper than non-dyslexic people are. This helps them recognize patterns and features in wider areas of periphery. They quickly take a scene in as a complete view. Due to this ability, they easily handle or deal with impossible figures like for example the one that artist M. C. Escher sketches.in his sketches if one focuses on a single element one will believe that it represents a physical arrangement that is plausible. However, from the dyslexic’s point of view, which is more holistic, it reveals that the water flows up instead of down in his fountain and that the staircases lead to nowhere. Therefore, this is a talent in a way that it enables them to notice the unnoticeable in pictures and general art, which non-dyslexic people would not have noticed.
In science, particularly astrophysics dyslexics are good at reading radio signatures, which graphs of outer space emissions of radio waves. Research by an astronomer Mr. Schneps, shows that they are also good at analyzing astronomical pictures which typical readers are not able to catch on.so their disability that people say is a problem actually is more efficient in some fields.
QUESTION 2
Schoolteachers should adapt strategies that are suitable for dyslexic students. The strategies include:
- The teachers should provide regular outlines of goals, schedules, and lecture notes. They should use print on paper that is colored to decrease glare, keywords that are boldfaced, show pictures that are whole first, use fonts that are sans serif like Verdana or Arial to ease confusion on visual aids. It is applicable in all subjects.
- The teacher should thoroughly create a class environment that encourages success. They should be encouraging and welcoming, provide front seats, nurture student’s learning and growth.
- The teachers should utilize technology that is helpful. They should take videos of demonstrations and lessons, tape record all lectures, and make multimedia learning chances that are interactive available.
- They should present lessons that are multi-sensory to exploit learning. It involves reviewing what people learned in the previous lessons when one starts the lesson and intensifying lessons beyond auditory and visual learning.
- The teachers should respond to the needs of their dyslexic students needs.it involves being flexible, playing games that involve learning, and looking for methods that suit the students’ needs best.
These methods of teaching are applicable to all grade students and to all subjects being taught.
