The process of getting an article from the online library which I took to retrieve the article entitled Association Among Aging Related Stereotypic Belief, Self-efficacy and Self-promoting Behaviors in Elderly Korean Adults” is as explained bellow . First I accessed the University library Portal after which I logged in and went to the research area where I typed in the information relevant to the articles in which I am interested. The first screen has the “SEARCH IT” title with other subtitles below it e.g. Databases which includes specific subject areas that one may want to look at, under data base I clicked on databases A to Z that brought up a new window where I could type in and specify the subject I wanted to focus on.
After typing in psycinfo, a title that would allow me to enter the Proquest screen came up and I clicked on that. The Proquest screen is meant for both basic and advanced searches as well as publications browsing and available databases. I clicked on the advances search, and typed the keywords aging in adults and specified that the article should be from a peer reviewed journal. After this I narrowed the search further and sorted the results by relevance and this meant I was narrowing down the search specifically to topics related to aging and not any other psychological topic and thus clicked on search. After this I received a specific number off results from the filtered search decided not to change the search parameters. I went through the list before settling down on the aforementioned article picked since it was in my area of interest.
I clicked on the tittle of the article in order to get more information regarding its source, since it could be acquired through a PDF link, I was able to download it . I used the tool necessary just below the tittle to view the references which provided all the references used in the original article. After viewing the reference I picked an article from the reference list entitled “Challenging Aging Stereotypes: Strategies For Creating a More Active Society,” which is a peer reviewed journal article found in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine. I basically repeated the same process as the first time, instead this time around I used the name of the Authors instead of the keywords as before, thus narrowing down the search to works by this person specifically.
The topic I chose is relevant to the psychological world since it is about two major areas in psychology, the first area being adult development and aging that is applicable in the psychological practice by getting to understand the life pattern and behaviors of adults as they grow into certain developmental stages. The other area is social psychology and this is where issues about stereotypes come in to affect thoughts belief patterns and behavior of people in general (Yeom, 2014).
