Values are the deeply held principles that people hold or adhere to when to making certain decisions. Mapping of individual and corporate cultures have become a major source of competitive advantage in creating a business culture directed towards the success of the business. The intent of this thesis is to analyze the individual values and the Tom Thumb grocery store values as reflected in the organization plans and actions.
Tom Thumb grocery store deals with a chain of supermarkets in the US that sells fast food and groceries. The origin of personal values and workplace originates from a rich history in America that dates back thirty five years ago when businesses deeply involved in determining the social responsibilities of business as it seeks to increase its profits. Since then, businesses such as Tom Thumb grocery store are not merely concerned with profits but also promoting desirable social ends that enhance the provision of employment, eradicating prejudice, and other activities showing reform in business values.
I believe that my core values are reflected in my conduct and actions both in my private and work life. Among my most esteemed personal values, include hard work in centering my efforts towards customer happiness and satisfaction, loyalty to my employer and the company, upholding team work strategies in my line of work through respect and continuous learning.
Tom Thumb grocery store uses three different kinds of planning including strategic planning, corporate planning, and operational planning which is aligned with the corporate and personal values in such behavior and actions including the decision making, attracting competitive employees, increasing profits and shareholder values, fostering creativity and productivity, and ensuring ethics permeate the corporate culture.
As seen in the above context, personal and corporate values should be aligned together in ensuring the business meets its short term and long term goals through cohesion of these values and directing them towards the creation of harmony in the organization planning and execution of the plan.
However, there are certain issues that involve alignment between Tom Thumb grocery store and my values to differ in some way. As strongly as the organization values short term focus, I personally value customer oriented business strategies with extensive prospects based on long term prospects and organization growth. Moreover, the company should not only develop some kind of leadership dictatorship around in the business functions, but rather it should enhance team work and open communications aimed at continuous improvement and internal cohesions.
