Veterans put their lives at risk while protecting the sovereignty and maintaining peace in the country through putting their lives at harm’s way. Given that veterans leave their families behind in order to serve and protect the greater society, they should be honored and celebrated. Also, most veterans have lost their lives while at war and protecting the nation-state whereas some of them have become disabled for life thereby hindering them from conducting day to day activities. According to the American war library a war veteran is “any Government Issue ordered to foreign soil or water to participate in direct or supper activity against an enemy. In explanation, any Government Issue sent in harm’s way” (Coleman, 1973). We chose to honor war veterans because they spent a part of their life trying to make our life better and safer. Through a wish foundation known as Ronald’s Reward that partners with McDonalds, we have decided to honor our veterans’ wishes by trying to make them come true. It is crucial to note that McDonald’s main market is made up by children and seniors which makes it an honor to give back to the society.
The Ronald’s Reward is a program that allows war veterans or their family to make a wish, and McDonald’s will make it come true. Some of these veterans may have passed away during the war or after, but the offer will still stand for that veteran’s immediate family. Anyway we can help the people and their families who put their life on the line for us, is worth doing. The wish would have a few regulations for example; it has to be realistic, world peace is a great wish, but there is no way one company can make that happen, and it has to be within a certain amount of money, McDonalds is giving this reward to a lot of people so asking for a $3 million car would be too much. Another part to this program would be on November 11th every year anyone dressed in uniform would be able to receive a free coffee and bagel or muffin for breakfast. This is McDonald’s way of saying they support them.
The Ronald’s Reward aims at making the wishes of veterans or their immediate families come true. For example, the Ronald’s Reward may pay for a trip for the veteran and their family as a way of making up for the time lost. Alternatively, a veteran may wish to conduct a given event or a special moment that the veteran missed while he/she was serving their country. A third wish idea may be done by the family of a passed veteran in memory of him/her. A last wish idea could be for a veteran and the people he served with in the war to be able to get together again. Anything that the veteran or family wants and is within regulations will be granted.
Ronald’s Reward will partner with McDonald so as to raise money to grant the wishes of the veterans or their immediate families. The Ronald’s reward can generate money through having a box of change on the counters at McDonald’s locations to get change from customers. Another way to get money is through a specific time of year any proceeds from drinks, such as coffee, tea, soft drinks, or juices, will go towards these rewards. Even though these two ways to receive money seems small, when they are implemented across all the McDonald’s restaurants they will add up to a large amount. For example, if there are 1000 McDonald’s locations in one country, and each location raised $100 then that country would have $100,000 that year towards granting wishes.
I think that the Ronald Reward is a good way to honor and thank the veterans who fought for the freedom of our country by putting their lives at risk. Through donations and partnerships with businesses such as McDonald will ensure that most of the veterans wish has been honored. This is something small that we can all participate as a way of saying thank you to the brave men and women that serve and protect the country.
It is evident that most of our veterans come home suffering from mental disorders such as PTSD, some have been disabled whereas others have lost their lives thereby, living their family behind. Most of our veterans can hardly get jobs because of their physical conditions after the war and some are forced to depression. Thus, the Ronald Reward gives an opportunity to the greater society to make the veteran’s life better through making their wish come true by using their donations. Given that McDonalds has so many stores across the nation, raising money for the foundation will be easier because most of the American population go to McDonalds every day. I think that Ronald’s Reward would be a great tool to thanking veterans for all their efforts.
