IKEA is an organization that has gone an extra step in fulfilling its social responsibility to society. This is especially through the soft product initiative that seeks to raise funds for educating children in Vietnam. The program is structured such that for every soft product sold by IKEA, a dollar is donated towards the education of a Vietnamese child. This program is unique from other programs undertaken by other firms in fulfilling their social responsibility. This is because it seeks to introduce a direct influence on the lives of the children.
IKEA builds organizations that take care of serious issues around the world. They do this to ensure that they bring about direct changes to people’s lives and not just a general effect to the public. They establish offices and send ambassadors to various offices around the world. This is a bold and positive step that should also be embraced by other multinational companies in implementing of social responsibility goals. This is not going too far. Instead, it a positive challenge to other companies since it does not seek to attract any financial benefits from the communities.
It is a sincere movement aimed at improving the quality of life in Vietnam by ensuring the children are educated. This helps them to have some hope of becoming professionals in various fields. By doing so they can help improve their societies and hence rise from themselves from poverty. This does not hurt investors but encourages them. The world market for their goods becomes larger and they manage to develop consumer loyalty. Companies such as Google also carry out similar projects as part of their social responsibility. This is because of the social acceptance that the company receives due to their act of compassion towards needy societies.
An important part to note in this video is that it does not do the social responsibility to better itself rather it its main aim is to help the children. I do believe that this should be the main agenda of all companies aimed participating in social responsibility. I do believe that this initiative may increase the confidence of investors to support the company as it seeks to enhance the image of the company, which attracts more investors. Investors are basing their decisions on the ethical levels in different companies. Thus, investors are likely to investment in a company that is ethically sensitive in promoting social good.
