The Story about a Bottle of Water
This is the story of how bottled water companies seduce, mislead, and pollutes our minds, saying that drinking tap water may harm our health. The fact of the matter is, billions of dollars are being spent by these bottled water companies just to promote their products and in return, people around the globe also spends millions of dollars just to avoid drinking tap water as a result of false marketing and wrong information that is being given to consumers.
I think these bottled water companies are up to gaining more profit than providing what are really the facts behind their business. In the video, it showed the reality how these manufacturers produce bottled waters. It is given that they are able to convince millions of people around the globe and they are able to earn profit out of their campaign, but with the facts showing how they manufacture it made me think that couple of things. Initially, they do not just pollute consumer’s minds, but they also contribute in the environmental pollution as plastic bottles production causes air pollution including mountains of plastic trash that are transported to India, not for recycling, but for down cycling. This process harms not only the air, but the people that surround them.
The video was created in a concise way, which clearly states the differences between the bottled water and tap water. It makes sense that the government should regulate the bottled water companies more as they produce plastic bottles using oils and chemicals that are more hazardous not only to human consumption, but with the environment in general.
The Great Pacific Garbage Patch
As for the video about the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, it showed how being a throw-away society contributes to being one of the major causes of water pollution. Throw-away society means avoiding things that can be recycled, throwing most of the thing that we no longer need, like plastic bottles, plastic spoons, and anything that can be considered non-biodegradable. It was clear evidence that small plastic pieces especially plastic caps that are present in the ocean surfaces are mistakenly identified by Laysan Albatrosses as food, which became their death cause. The report made by Captain Charles Moore of AMRF showed that even a 4-month old albatross died after eating these plastic bottle caps.
This video portrays how other people can be harsh to their environment, which badly affects our natural life forms including planktons, where it showed that there are smaller pieces of plastic present on the ocean more than planktons. This can be alarming because as we know, these planktons are part of the food chain in the ocean, which is an important life form to keep other ocean life from being endangered. Marine and land animals are in danger of getting extinct once this throw-away system continues. This is not healthy for our ocean life, not good for our environment, and eventually may cause worse effects towards people as it can pollute marine life forms that we eat.
This video clearly shows that plastic can help people a lot with their everyday lives, but can cause double or possibly, triple negative effects towards out planet due of its production to consumption up to disposing habits. Frequent plastic users should watch Great Pacific Garbage Patch to be more aware of more negative effects that plastic products can give.
