Part two
The owner of WABC TV in New York is ABC Corporation. The advertisements are done on their website. Also, the TV station in New York provides the information using the website as the online platform. They have correspondences all over the globe and more so in the United States of America (Gifford 21). The fact that it provides the information updates in all the countries of the globe, its placement of its correspondences cover the globe. After their correspondences collect information from the field, they analyze the stories to air. However, the challenge of language barrier becomes a hindrance factor to its market share. On the other hand, the United States has adopted the WABC TV as their domestic channel and network to get updated on different affairs (Newman 13). The TV airs all sorts of advertisements, especially during family times. Also, their information is not restricted to any specific phenomena. For example, they broadcast all information about business news, politics, and health issues, among others. The director of the news of WABC TV is the determiner of what the news to be aired. However, he does the responsibility with collaboration with news editors.
Part Three
The news continuum at WABC TV is presented in a professional manner. Evidently, the news appears as a series where one items come after another with perfect logical arrangement. In this case, therefore, the way in which they are arranged in regard to what story should feature first is and what should come after is commendable. For example, the first story starts with a political issue within the country ((Baderinwa & Billimoria 1). The aim here it to attract the attention of the viewers and hence set the mood for the entire news broadcast. Indeed, the fact that most people look forward to getting updates on the state of both the national and statutory politics give and opening to this. However, this also affects the sociology of the citizens and their orientation. This claim is based on the fact that opening the news with political stories lead to a situation in which the country becomes affinitive to political rhetoric. Importantly, it makes the citizens to deviate their interests from economic matters and other social aspects to the political interests. In addition, such an opening makes the broadcast become irrelevant to an individual who do not have much interest politics. The assumption here is that more than half of viewers are interested in politics. As such, the news’ organizers tend to use the law of large numbers and take care of the interests of the majority rather than seek to satisfy the needs of a few of rather remain neutral. This speaks to the issue of how the media has been affected by capitalism and profit-based mentality in which the owners are more interested in making profits and not the question of whether the broadcast serve the rightful purpose. Actually, the contemporary media does not advocate for what is true; rather, it focuses on what it trending and attracting more attention. Of course, such a scenario is necessitated by the fact that competition in the media industry is becoming too intense to remain conservative. Otherwise, the broadcasting company would find itself out of business putting the lives of its employees and the investors in jeopardy. Yet, whereas it is understandable in those terms, the question of whether the media would be able to balance between the truth and capitalism arises.
In addition to the above, the newscast of WABC TV is serving the viewers with information which is useful in making decisions. Therefore, culturally, the news helps individuals to take measures appropriate in their day to day lives as regards the risk factors presented. For instance, in the story of 3-hour waiting, citizens can take precautions to find other alternatives. Also, the newscast promotes peace in the country which is portrayed as a fundamental ingredient of prosperity. In this regard, positive information does not only spearhead the satisfaction of the people, but it actually shapes opinion. However, the information broadcasted can be used to mislead the viewers socially, culturally and spiritually. Hence, the media house should be cautious in whatever it airs.
