Born in 1930 in America, Warren Buffett has continued to be generally considered as one of the world’s most successful investors. He is not only a successful value investor; but a business magnate and a philanthropist as well. He is a primary shareholder, CEO and chairman of Berkshire Hathaway and the world’s third wealthiest person in 2011 according to Forbes Magazine. Buffett is widely recognized for his devotion to the philosophy of value investing.
It is interesting to study Warren Buffett because of his success in value investing. His value investing philosophy is just profitable and very relevant in all financial environments and markets. Adoption of simple investment strategies is his philosophy. This philosophy has made him and his investments successful. Based on his simple value investment strategies, Buffett has been in position to convert a holding company, Berkshire Hathaway to a powerhouse. As well, he was positioned world’s wealthiest person in 2008 by Forbes with an approximated net worth of US$62 billion. Core of his strategies include: not reinvesting in a same business as same return is not guaranteed, keeping investment portfolio simple and limited, and never timing the stock market.
Buffet’s position on health care reform is positive. He supports the expansion of America’s health insurance coverage even though he describes the move of dealing with health costs as insufficient. To him, costs of health care should be towards 13 to 14% of GDP.
Berkshire Hathaway’s cash and cash equivalents totaled $49 billion as at 2011, June. This forms core investment. The company as well has numerous performing subsidiaries. He also has top shares in Coca-Cola Company, Wells Fargo and American Express. His investments have recently performed well, thanks to his simple value investing strategies.
